EVERYONE I talked to while I was there loved the Outback Safari. It goes into the countryside, visits a school, tours the local industry, and explores all of the wildlife. They said it was totally worth the time and money. Be sure to take some stuff to give the kids at the school. I wish I would have went on it :-( Oh well, always next time.

hello
the outback safari is brilliant and you cant go wrong swimming with the dolphins at ocean world.

we went on the trip to saona island (not sure on spelling) this was lovely the snorkeling was fun we enjoyed this trip alot. We also swam with sharks which was interesting i was really scared but it was alot of fun, maybe more than the first trip.
if you ask your rep they normally give you a list of trips available.
Have a good time

out back safari, catamaran, and ocean world are all good value - well worth the money.

Id also recommend getting to Cabarete beach if you are on that side of the island - there are soooo many kitesurfers there, (we go most years for the kitesurfing). also a number of beach bars/restaurants with hammocks, happy hour, lovely cheap food with a great atmosphere

Enjoy - I know you will!

Yea, there are loads to do!!

Excursions/trips:
We went for 2 weeks and spaced it out with 2 trips per week. VIP Private Island was excellent! The food, drink, coral reefs, staff, was all excellent - plus my boyfriend proposed, so it was a favourite of mine!
They have Ocean World, were you can do shark, dolphin, sea lion, or string ray encounters, or experience... your food is included with the day pass, but bring cash for drinks and photos taken if you do any of the encounters or experiences with the animals. They also have a bird and sea lion show was is excellent! http://www.oceanworld.net/
Catamaran was another trip we did, which was definitely worth the money!! The food and drink was lovely. The staffs were excellent!! We went with a company called FreeStyle. It was very lively, with water fights with the other boats, 2x 1hr stops for snorkelling, and you can also get good quality underwater photos for $10 each.
Our hotel also put on a bar/club crawl, which we thoroughly enjoyed...
They also had go-karting, quad biking in the mountains, Jeep Safari's, horse riding... and the list go on... you we definitely have plenty to do!
Tip: umm... we had conflicting information on whether to bring Dominica Dollar, or America Dollar, so we brought 1/2 of each.... found it best to use their own currency as each shop had its own exchange rate, and we ended up losing money transferring it from US to Dominican Dollars..

There are so many places that you can go to in the Dominican Republic, you can either go to The Pico Duarte, The Bahia de la Plata in the north part, Las Cuevas del Pormier, The magnetic Pole in the South and to Juan Dolio, Bavaro, Manati Park in the East. If you have any questions you can write me back, i'm from there so i know the country very good

Before answering I need to know what part of the DR you are going to?? Punta Cana? Peurto Plata?

Ocean World, up in the north, is brilliant.

So many trips and so little time!
Well, you can take a trip to Saona Island or Isla Catalina. There is a whale watching trip if you visit Dominican Republic between January and March. You can visit Manati Park, there you can watch the parrots and dolphins show, and you can even swim with dolphins. You can take a trip to go scuba diving, or if you love to shop, there is a trip that takes visitors only to shopping centers. Or take a helicopter tour. The outback safari is very popular, too. I would recommend you to book your trip with your hotel because it's safe and their schedules are on time.

I took a really cool trekking trip up Pico Duarte on the back of a horse. You get a guide, and camp in cabins along the way to the top (about a 4-day trip). it is the highest point in the caribbean, and its a great trip for a nature enthusiast.

Jan-March is a good time to snorkel with humpback whales.

Other than that, its just a good place to hang out on the beach.

I only went on one trip to the waterfall and a cigar factory but was disappointed so decided the best way to see the country was to go by bike We hired trial bikes and went into the mountains and visited different villages, the people were very friendly and didn't try to sell or rip us off.

Remember if you go into Porto Plata take your hotel bracelet off, don't bother with a guide as all they do is take you to their friends shops to buy overpriced goods.
Try the diving, the sea life is excellent.

If you are going to Puerto Plata, there is a little restaurant there called Cafe Cito that does a "Pub Crawl" and it is so much fun.

my daughter went there 2 years ago and said the hotel and beach was great but nothing else there to do.
