Anybody else SICK AND TIRED OF PUERTO RICO?!? |
Just this weekend, a guy was killed in the parking lot of the mall, because he was in a car that was a bout to crash into another guys car. His pregnant girlfriend was driving the car. and he got off to exchange a pair of shoes while she waited in the car. As he walks back out to the parking lot, the driver of the car his girlfriend almost crashed follows him and she tells her boyfriend to go after him. The thing is the guy (who is from the projects, by the way-big surprise) shoots and kills him. I'm shocked at the levels of mental instability and lack of education here on this island. I was born and raised her, but it sorrows me how dirty, damaged and corrupt this island has become. Last week a couple of seniors on theirs 60th Anniversary were mugged! Some women pop out like six kids and are parasites for the rest of their lives who live on welfare!I am leaving in 5 months, and if things continue like this, I'll be gone forever. I really hope things in this tiny island progress, and that all starts with better school systems, an acknowledgment of the mental illness here, and parents who actually take the time to show morals to their kids. Additional Details I've lived in the States...PR has more homicides per capita than any state in the U.S.!!!! |

Crime here in PR is out of control, and anyone who answers your post who doesn't agree is either ill informed or has their head in the sand. Puerto RIco has more murders per capita than any other place in the United States. This is no exaggeration, this is fact. PR's glorious natural beauty is being over shadowed by government corruption, drug wars, murder and general disregard for public safety. It is not just one problem, it is the culmination of bad public education, corrupt police ( I have seen first hand this corruption and it infests all facets of the police force), and an unwillingness among the public to turn known criminals in. Among the huge population of people there is a code, street code if you will that is followed more so than the letter of the law, because the law has done little to protect the people. Heroin addicts rome the streets so high they can barely stand, begging for money or food or both. Obviously mentally ill people go without treatment, and are only confined when they commit a crime. As with any place that is standing on the brink of chaos, it is the people who must change. They must first be willing to change themselves, their own attitudes then demand change in the government. I have lived here for almost a decade, and have known more than a dozen people who have been killed in the streets, some innocent bystanders others perhaps not so innocent. A boy, 17 years old, was killed right outside my mothers gate. Shot down not 40 feet from where my daughter was sitting at the computer, by an automatic weapon. My mother lives in a nice neighborhood in a tourist zone. ANY of you who say the crime here is the same as any other big city in the US are DELUSIONAL, I live here, I see what goes on and you know what I don't blame you for getting out while you can. I personally have been robbed twice, once with a gun to my head. There is a culture of crime here, and until people are willing to change, it will only get worse. What's our last count on murders, I quit keeping track, but it's higher than the year before and the year before that. That's just the murders, that is not including rapes, robberies, domestic violence and all other mannor of crimes, and it doesn't include those who have vanished without a trace. I am not ready to give up yet, I'll stay because I do love the Island, my family here and the people who are good in their hearts and deeds, because there are many. But like i said, I don't blame you for giving up, and good luck.
BTW, PR is # 18 in the world in murders per capita! |

I was very sorry when I read your post. This isn't isolated to Puerto Rico. It seems to be happening in many countries. The disrespect for human life.
In my humble opinion, it is the government that should say enough is enough. More police and lock these criminals in so they don't harm other.
There are many reasons why a person will be a criminal, but no excuses. |

You need two things to bring order and preserve freedom. Law means citizens agree to abide by the rules made by government representing the voices and opinions of the public. Order means a government exercises its power to punish criminals to preserve stability. You can not have a free society without acknowledgement of law and order. As a whole, the U.S. has problems with this issue because we do not know the fine line exists between order and law. Our society does not expect citizens to take responsibility any longer, and the consequences of this failure appear. I support freedom first but without law and order- you can not have a free society. |

No Never...Puerto Rico is only 100 x 35...so If you compare PR to any other Big city..Crime is just the same... Miami, New York City, LA... |

In many ways....yes I'm tired.
A 13 years boy, like my kid, was kill for playing in the patio of the wrong house. Is insane. A hero cop, who put in prison the criminal Alex Trujillo, is accused of corruption. Each day a new BAD NEWS for breakfast.
Nevertheless when the things are wrong is the moment to find a hero. Where's the hero? No idea. |

First of all, there is crime everywhere. Have you been to NYC someone killed a bus driver because the bus driver didn't gave him a transfer for free. People in LA and Vegas killed you just for looking at them. This is something that's happening everywhere, so nest time read the news of your country before you talk about someone else's country. Also it depends what part of Puerto Rico, the crime is in the major cities of the island as they are in the major cities of USA. Also if people will tell what happened to they kids in the island, let me tell you that here in nyc 8 men raped my 5 years old sister and then killed her. I'm not puertorican, but i have friends who are and as an american i'm informed of what's going on here first and then in other places. I've been to Puerto Rico a couple of times and nothing have ever happened to me. |

Maybe it has to do with the fact that Puerto Rico is under jurisdiction of the U.S. seeing that the U.S. has more violence than most other countries. They just learning from the U.S. They just want to fit in with the states thats all! |

Puerto Rico is starting to become a very bad place(no offense) If you cant stay off the island and warm side of life then i suggest visiting some other island such as anguilla. It is an amazing place there and not a major amount of people. |

well then I suggest that if you dont like PR move to the US, which is your desire. I understand PR does have things that really are messed up, but so is the US. The economical life in the US is not a dream, and crime is not sweet in the US. I was born in NY, raised in PR and Florida and I live in Florida for 20 years, my son was born in the states but he likes PR better. I guess everyone its different and have their own opinions and choices were to live at. Im not that crazy about PR system and way of life, but I do respect the fact that my family and ancestors are from there and I also respect and enjoy our rich global historical culture that has a great impact in history. Florida has more random crimes and sexual ofenders who kidnap children and then are found dead or never found at all. PR crimes are more internal, related to drugs and rapes and killings within family issues. Both countries have bad news and good news. We cant blame a country and hate it for what happens, the entire world is a mess and so it will get worse. If you are serving the US forces, do it because you love to help others and for your self, not because of political and country preference or hate for our roots. Be proud of your heritage, love it and stop hating what is already part of you, because in the end you will be hating yourself. Live were it makes you happy and reserve your ignorant points of views toward a country and making "My Country the US" like its some kind of perfect world when its really not. US is as bad conditions and crisis like any other country, they both have their ups and downs. So be proud of who you are and be happy were you desire to live. |
