I travel to 2 countires every year and one of the 2 is always Jamaica. I'm not sure where that resort built on concrete with a barb wire fence is the gent was talking about - I've never seen that in 12 years!!! Travel is like anything else, the more you know the better. I always let the American embassy in whatever country I am visiting know that I am there. There is crime everywhere no different in Jamaica. I make it a habit of not being in certain areas of Kingston after dark and I do not wander off after dark. I can tell you this, I absolutely love Jamaica - the people are warm and friendly, the island is beautiful, the water inviting, the food - jerk chicken, ackee & salt fish (sounds like a commercial huh??). Make sure you get to Dunn's River Falls, there is Rockfort mineral bath outside Kingston, The Bob Marley Museum, The National Gallery of Art (featuring Jamaican artists), explore a coffee plantation, tour Appleton Estate Rum (you'll walk away very happy from there!!), dive, swim, sail....watch the waves go by.
If you go to Negril - get to Rick's a bit before sunset to chill out, eat & drink and watch the cliff divers. I'm a gal who likes to golf so I hit the course at The White Witch.....but whatever it is you like to do, by all means go to Jamaica..............I know you will be happy you did!!! Take American Express Travel Cards and not alot of cash, get a hotel room with a safe in it and by all means don't get into a taxi with only 3 tires - just legit ones...........................:)

I vacation in beautiful Jamaica every summer for the past three years and I love it.It is a great place for a vacation.The citizens are friendly and the food is great.Do not change your plans.Go for it.

No, I have never been there however my sister has, she got a cheapest airfare because her friend worked at the travel agency. She went with friends and stayed in Negril, I had seen the photos, it was beautiful although she said it was alright.

NO JAMAICA IS AWODERFUL PLACE 2 VISIT.i went a year ago & have been there back 2 times already.something about the atmosphere is just so relaxing. the peolpe ther are so warm it's like ur in a paradise.it's beaches are so nice. make suggestion to go to negril or ocho rios.

As with any foreign country you have to have an open mind. Jamaica is a very poor country and if you are not on a resort, things can look bad. If you treat people with respect, most likely you will get it back in return. It's a beautiful country. Go, and enjoy yourself.

Go with an open mind and have massive fun non stop. Let loose and be free.

I would definitely recommend negril or ocho rios.

Been there 3 times already and can't imagine myself going somewhere else now... i'm addicted LOL. It's not the cheapes vacation offcourse but it's worth every cent. The country is wonderfull, just make sure you'll go off the resort and explore. And whatever some people say it's SAFE.

Jamacia is far from the commericals you see on tv. The beaches are crowded, the all inclusive places are built on compounds (12 foot cement walls with barbed wire on top) and the island is a dangerous place for tourists.

Change your plans, go somewhere that's real.
