Anyone been to the Carribean?

I'm a young mom of a seven year old, I'm getting ready to graduate with two business degrees. Ive been all over the U.S. Ive come to the conclusion that It is my lifes mission to live on a beach or in a High rise is some major city (not a west coast city) these two things are extreme but I live in Alaska and hate it for not being eithor of those things.

Anyway because I would be moving w/ my child and my boyfriend, the citys kind of out I really want space for my family we concidered hawaii, but screw it I want to move to the Carribean

after hours and hours of reaserch I really just need to here people experiences...is this plausible? what are the best countries? real answeres about demographics, economy, employment, cost of living? I do care about the beauty of the islands but i dont care about tourist hotels and attractions.

greatly apriciate feedback lots please!!

Barbados.
Our schools follow the British educational system and are on par with British schools. Our school children SURPASS kids from American schools of the same age ranges academically. Not to mention primary and secondary education here is free for public schools but private school prices are great too. There are several non-nationals living here who greatly appreciate our educational system and if they go to schools beyond the Caribbean find them lacking.
We also have the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill campus) which has three campuses. Students can study a variety of disciplines including Medicine and Law. The University offers opportunities to study abroad with prestigious universities like Harvard, John Hopkins, Oxford So in terms of education I recommend Barbados, Trinidad or Jamaica as students have more educational opportunities there.
In terms of crime, I would say Barbados as Trinidad and Jamaica have a much higher murder rate. I don't mean to frighten you as its highly unlikely that you would experience crime in Trinidad or Jamaica but I'm just pointing out what statistics state. Any other questions feel free to add more details.

Barbados has the highest literacy rate in the Caribbean 97%.

Demographics:90% Afro-Bajan, 4% European, 6% Asian and Multiracial. Population: approx 280,000

Currency $1BBD (barbados dollar)= $1.98 USD

Unemployment is under 10% of the population.

The economy is well...i don't really know much about that (i'm a science student) but its growing i think.

Cost of living was increasing but its beginning to decline now that the price of oil has been lowered

Anymore questions. send me an email

I would visit a few places and talk to locals before up and moving. I love the caribbean but I know there is a difference between living there and visiting. A lot of times its not as easy as it seems and you don't have the same opportunities as a resident of that country. Also you have to think about what place offers the best education and opportunities for your child.

What you really need to do is go to the Caribbean for an extended vacation.. say a month or two... and that would give you enough time to get around... there are a lot of interisland ferryboats... and actually see if you want to make the move.

With all the building going on in the Dominican Republic, thanks to Trump.. you may find something with your business degrees.

I'd check out the US Virgin Islands, because they're our territories, so the move would be fairly simple legally. I have only visited, but I dream of a St. Thomas dwelling all the time.

I guess a lot of Caribbean islands have the policy that you need to bring your own company or income when you want to settle for life.
Are you?

the best country to come to in the Caribbean is Barbados! there are many job opportunites and if already have an idea that u wanna open ur own business then u can do that also...your children will have good eduaction and education in Barbados is FREE!!!! =)

I've been hanging around the Caribbean for sometime now and since I enjoyed it alot, I made some reviews on the best places to stay there. Costa Rica is on top of the list, together with Mexico and Panama. Check my travel guide it might help you :)
