Are Domincans mixed with black?

Show all answers

blank
Yeah there's a lot of black people there. Mix with black and white: Mulatto, White+ native Indians = Mestizo and Black with Native Indian = I forgot the name. But if you are black be careful in the DR because Trujillo might come back to hunt you. LoL

Yosoloyo
Everybody gave you a great answer. We are mixed. This is the reason that you see from very black, almost dark blue skin Dominicans to very white and blond Dominicans.

Yes!!
Many years ago slaves were brought from Africa and the African race got mixed in with the European and Taino (Native Indian). Today its called "Mulatto".

Till this day you can see African Influences in the Dominican Culture: Music, Food, traditions, Spirituality/religion.

sweetie
Dominicans are a mix of Tainos(native settlers), White (mostly from Spain), and black from Africa.

Yes, most of them are. Since the Island of Hispañola (Where Haiti and the Dominican Republic are located) was a stop on the slave trade, many slaves from Africa passed through there. Many of them remained to work on the sugar plantations. There were some whites on the island, but after independence many of them left for other areas.

According to the USA one drop rule and the Racial Integrity act of 1924, yes. According to Dominicans and Myslef , No. We're (I am a) mix, 75% mixed, 10% black, 15% white, which is the official ratio of the country. Soem of it has to do with the facts, some of it Trujillo, some of it the wars with our neighbor Haiti. We have all nationalities colors and ethnic groups form around the world mixed in. Jews from Europe from the 1970's and even African American Slaves in the 1800's from Samana. It is probably the most interesting culture and history in the caribean . I am studying to be a history Professor and I am fascinated everyday! Going home next week.
