No, the East Indian community that resides in Trinidad and Tobago (mostly in Trinidad) are the descendants of migrant-workers from Uttar Pradesh, Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and Kolkatta in India. They were brought to Trinidad from 1839 onward by the British East India Company.

The Native American community - generally known as the "Amerindian" community are the descendents of two ethnic groups - the Caribs and the Arawaks - who descended in the Orinoco basins and made their way to the islands - originally the Arawaks and then the dominant Caribs followed.

No, trini east indians were brought to Trinidad from India the country, we are very different from native americans, although Trinidad and Tobago does have natives. Alexi has it right, and east indians were brought as indentured workers, not slaves.

Petra M
The East Indians weren't brought here as "slaves". The correct term is "indentured labourers." The second answerer gave you an excellent explanation. Just one correction: the indigenous tribes originally known as the "Caribs" and "Arawaks" are in reality the "Kalinago" and "Taino" respectively. They spoke the Arawak language. Historians only just recently corrected that error.
