Are people really that clueless? |
I posted a question about customs in Miami taking items from people returning from Cuba and heard everything from, Cuba produces no wine to, Customs is supposed to destroy the items they take from you. Number 1: Cuba does produce wine Number 2: They did not destroy any item in front of her. Number 3: Yes, there is such a thing as people growing peppers and all kinds of things in Cuba. And number 4: It doesn't make anyone stupid to try and bring something from their homeland as a memory, this is supposedly a free country right? The ignorance of some people amazes me. |

i read your other question but had nothing to add to that question. I certainly sympathize with you and your mother for the hassles It always seems there are unnecessary obstacles which take the glow off what should have been a nice return to the U. S. Shame on those customs guys for ruining what should have been a happy occasion. |

It is pretty amazing. It's because so many people just hear something and believe it without considering the source or conflicting evidence. |

Just ignore them. One in particular never has anything good to say about anything. Always saying something negative. How do they know what Cuba produces? |

Cuba does produce wine.
Cuba noted for it high-quality rum, is swinging into full gear to produce wine in order to lure foreign tourists and rebuild its economy, reports Kyodo News Service (November 24, 2000). Priced at US$10 per bottle at a hard-currency shop, the wine is out of the reach of ordinary Cubans
whose monthly salary averages US$11. The sole wine producer and exporter in Cuba is Vinos Fantinel S.A., a joint venture established in 1994 by an Italian winemaker and the Cuban Government. Fantinel started producing the wine in 1998. The company imported grape concentrate from Italy and blended it with local grape juice at its winery before having it go through the fermentation process, then filtration and bottling. It put its bottled wine on sale as "Cuban-made wine." Vinos Fantinel has also obtained 30 hectares of land in western Cuba to grow grapes to expand the wine output. More than 80% of Vinos Fantinel wine is sold to hotels and restaurants here, with the remainder exported to other countries, including Britain and Hong Kong. The company said 185,000 bottles of wine were exported last year.
The only other thing is i would like to know where she got here peppers because i can only find tiny little things from the odd farmer prepared to sell them, the decent ones are grown for the hotels. |

Right. The ignorance of some people is amazing. cuba does not produce wine, at least not in an important way.
Well, if she didn't know about being forbidden to bring items from cuba, I will not say it is stupid. That would be offensive.
But she really was clueless. She should have known that |
