Yes, there are sharks in the Caribbean Sea. I have not heard many tales of them, except fishermen getting them in nets, etc. No attack stories or anything. |

The only sharks I've seen in Ochi were land sharks. :) There are sharks in the ocean, so yes there could be one somewhere. If I remember correctly, there hasn't been a shark attack in JA in 80 years. Go and have fun! The water is clear if that puts your mind at ease. |

c'mon really. do sharks live in the ocean? is there ocean around jamaica?
if you use some general safety when swimming, you can avoid lots of accidents. i frequently snorkel and generally love to be in the water. you have to be aware of your surroundings at all times and know the marine warnings for the beach, if they are posted. i live close to the gulf and beaches here post different warnings for several types of marine life.as long as you realize you are not alone, sharks typically don't attack humans because they enjoy the taste of us. |

Been diving in Jamaica for years & saw a shark once....my fault though...had been spear fishing & had a buch of killed fish in a net bag which attracted a 6 foot reef shark. He swam off after I didn't allow him to mess with my bag/fish.....
Most of Jamaica has a reef, and most large dangerous sharks won't come in past the reef, so no worries. There are other thing more dangerous though, like eels, baracuda, and sting rays...be careful of those guys....all are aggresive if provoked. |
