Here are the places I recommend ....... I am not sure where you are staying so I will list some places to see in every area of Puerto Rico ......... = )

Northern Region
The capital of the island lies within this region. San Juan is the centre of commerce and is also the main port of entry. This is the most populous and economically diverse region in the island. It is popular with tourists because offers the island's major resorts and shopping areas. Places to go are Historic Old San Juan district, AreciboObservatory in Arecibo, Guajataca State Forest and Lake in Isabela, Rio Camuy Caves in Camuy and Condado Beach in San Juan.

Eastern Region
This region is home of El Yunque, known as the Caribbean National Forest, is located in the rugged Sierra de Luquillo, 40 km southeast of San Juan. Catch the ferry from Fajardo to the outlying islands of Vieques and Culebra, both known for their secluded beaches, snorkeling spots and spectacular views. A must see is the phosphorescent Mosquito Bay.

Central Region
The central region is characterized by the Cordillera Central that rises to heights between 3,500 and 4,389 feet above sea level. The cool climate all year-round and rainfall of this area turned this region into an important agricultural center. If you are looking to relax in a quiet and serene place, full of lush and spectacular waterfalls and deep wilderness, this is the place for you.

Western Region
Hundreds of miles of coastline make this a popular beach region, most of the island's top beaches are located in this region. This region is known for its diving and world famous surfing. Top spots include Boquerón Beach, Guánica State Forest, Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge, Mona Island Iglesia Porta Coeli and Mayagüez Zoo (the only Zoo in the island).

Southern Region
This hot and humid region is by far the driest in the island, with only 36 inches of rain a year. The largest city in the region is Ponce, which was Spain's capital of the southern region until it fell to the U.S. in 1898. Rich in heritage and architecture, Ponce has spent nearly one half a billion dollars preserving its colonial core. This region will reveal a unique blend of both urban and rural environments, rich in cultural and architectural heritage. Places include Tibes Indian Ceremonial Center, Serralles Castle, Aguirre Forest Reserve, Caja de Muertos, and Museo de Arte de Ponce.

To the answer below mine, PR beaches are as great or even better than Dominican Republic beaches. Seriously, dude.

Anyways Puerto Rico is a lovely and beautiful country, you HAVE to go to San Juan and Old San Juan. It rocks! You should go to El Yunque. But you CANNOT miss San Juan! It is great. You should also go to Fajardo, it is the peak east of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico hotels are very good I suggest you go to Fajardo and stay in El Conquistador Resort Hotel, it is VERY great!

And also instead of staying in the Metro Area you should check out cities in the west like Mayaguez, and Moca. They are very nice. Have fun!

Old San Juan: El Morro Fort.

BEaches are great! not sure why someone in this panel would send you to the DR.

El Yunque(if you like nature)
El Morro (if you like history)
Lago Fosforesente(this is really good,it's a lake that when you touch the water is glows)

Coquishideaway
Lots!
Since I live in the NE of PR,I am partial to that area. Must sees include:
El Yunque
Old San Juan- spend the day and explore
a BioBay ( the Vieques one if possible)
Culebra's Flamenco Beach

The NW has the Cave Park, but unless they reopen Clara Cave, it can be missed.

Check out my travel site for ideas of things to do and see while in PR:

LUICHO
National Geographic quote: Puerto Rico, a semi-autonomous, internally self-governing U.S. territory, is an extraordinary island—an area smaller than Connecticut, mostly mountainous, with some 300 miles of coastline scalloped by soft sand beaches and lagoons easing into warm tropical water. Inland, rolling coastal plains rise abruptly into the Cordillera Central, a densely forested mountain range running parallel to the island's length and creating an unusual mix of climatic zones and ecosystems. Add an appealing assortment of restaurants; hotels and resorts from offbeat to grand; some of the oldest, most historically significant architecture in the Americas; world-class museums of art, history, and culture—and you have what the French historian Guillaume Raynal assured his king in 1780 is "one of the best islands and perhaps in proportion to its size the very best island of the New World

Caves park in Camuy , Arecibo Radiotelescope , Old San Juan, Caribbean National Forest ( el Yunque) , La Parguera, Vieques and Culebra islands, City of Ponce and the art museum. Luquillo Beach.Mona Island (The Galapagos of the caribbean)

Don't go there. PR beaches are not that great as the Dominican Republic. The beaches there are terrible compare to DR.
Go to the resort in DR call La Romana, you will have the best time of your whole entire life. I am from there but live in ny now.
