Are there lots of roads without names in Barbados? |
I will be renting a car and driving to various sites around the island. I would like to drive on some of the smaller roads that run east-to-west on the island (i.e. to go from Flower Forrest to Folkestone Marine Museum), but all the road maps I've looked at don't have any labels on these roads. Are they really nameless? If so, would you recommend I stick to the major highways, even if they don't provide the most direct route to where I want to go?
Thanks! |

All of the roads have names but they might not all have signs on the posts. There will definitely be a sign after you come out of Flower Forest although it might not be on the map. The map will not show you everything, only the major roads. Flower Forest is a very popular place so there will be signs showing you the road from there.
On exiting Flower Forest you just have to turn right and follow the road until you get back to Wechhman Hall Gully. Turn left and go towards the roundabout near the post office and then follow the road to the right. Continue along that road until you get to the main road. You will pass a farm and some horses. Take a right and then a left and continue on that until you reach the St Thomas Parish Church. Make a right there until you come to Holetown. Take a right and continue until you see Folkestone on the left. If you are lost ask for St Thomas Parish Church. Then ask for Holetown. Someone will show you the way.
You will waste too much time going the long route. If someone tells you 'go round the corner', they mean to turn left or right depending where they are pointing at the time. If you don't understand then ask someone else. |

I'm sure you will get a better answer than this but as I've been to Barbados and have been driven around it a bit I seem to remember that a lot of roads are pretty much like lanes without a lot of signposts everywhere.
I've been to the Marine Museum and the highway that I've just had a look at on Google map which runs up the coast only has one lane either way.
I would say that you would find your way about pretty easily with a map as Barbados is so small you could easily find a landmark and start again.
You are only ever a short drive to the coast wherever you are.
Also in that neck of the woods there just aren't many major highways, just narrow, winding single highways with little buses belting along .
It is a very laid back beautiful place with wonderful people ,enjoy. |

Most if not all of the roads in Barbados have names but all may not have up a sign. However the nationals heree are very nice and friendly and if you need directions the you can just ask they will be happy to help you.
I doubt you will get lost though!

Enjoy your stay. |

I was last in Barbados about 5 years ago and got lost quite a few times. This may be partly attributed to my poor map reading skills or maybe to the maps themselves.
In any case it was not a big deal because the Barbadian people are so pleasant and helpful. We just asked around and got lots of help. |

Not really, most of the roads have names. |

The other answers are inaccurate. Pretty much all of the roads in Barbados have names and signs. The older signs have been replaced with newer ones. Feel free to drive on the smaller roads just ask for directions to make sure you end up exactly where you want to go.
Yes are highways are not as 'monstrous' as others but they they are not narrow and single laned either. |
