Are there many mixed black-white people in Puerto Rico?

What percentage (roughly) of the population would be visibly mixed race black & white? I ask because I love mixed race women, they are so lovely! I am considering moving to Brazil or Venezuela or Colombia or Puerto Rico for that reason.

Gracias, amigas y amigos.

Yes puerto ricans are a mixed race. Puertoriquenos are not only white & black but taino indian as well. There is no (or very little) racism here so Puerto Rico is probably one of the most mixed places in the world. Some places have alot of different races but they dont necessarily mix with each other like PR does.

Also Brazil, Venezuela & Colombia have mixed people too but I dont know if those places are great to live in. Colombia is hostile.
----------------------------

ADDED:
No, former believe was that all the Taino indians died off when the spanish arrived due to harsh treatment, but a study done by the University of PR found that over 60% had Taino DNA. This is because the spanish enslaved taino men, but took taino women as wives.

Also the US census says that 80% of puertoricans are white. This is based on the individual opinions, not on facts. Puerto ricans were also told by the Puerto Rican gov't, if they didnt appear to be black; then to mark white because the US is racist & they will accept us better if we say we are white. In reality puertoricans know they are a mixed race & are proud of their roots.

We Puertorricans are a mixed race, starting with native Taino indians conquered and slaved by europeans (Spain), who bring africans as slaves to replace the tainos who were being exterminated by war against spaniards and by the european diseases they did not have inmunity against. But before the tainos were gone the spaniards got kids with their women. Recently studies of the University of PR state that 60% or more percent of us still have taino genes. Spamiards also mixed with the african slaves so we have puertorricans of all shades from black to white. Even those of us that have white skin may have a grandmother or great grandfather who has mixed or black race.

Also, we should add that since 1898, US adquired PR from Spain and during these 110 years we have been mixing with americans who have a geater race mix than ours.

What percentage with visibly mixed race? High, definitely more than 50%, depending what each people understand by "visible".

Besides, there are many definitions of what is "white race", current definition used by US agencies like Inmigration and FBI includes people of Middle East and parts of Northen Africa as being part of the "white race", regardless skin color. I'm sure neonazi and KKK definitions for white race is different than USA goverment's definition.

lindyhop, or whatever, its very wrong and obviusly not puertorrican. so dont mind non-factual comments.

we are very mixed with different diversities. we have black, white, and native indian and puertorricans are not racist, because we love other cultures and welcome them. we are a multicolor island. its like america and canada but no racism.

Honey, our island is a place that has the largest gene pool in the world. Ther`s a mixture of Taino,Spanish, African, Irish, Scottish, English, Danes, Finnish, Italian, Russians, French, Chinese, Japanese, Arawaks, Philipino, Canadians, Portuguese, Cubans, Dominicans, Virgin Islanders Canarians, Venezuelans, Colombians, Dutch, etc. Is this the reason why Puertorrican women win the Miss Universe pageant so often? The beach to go here to get your daily vitamin K (checking out the guys or the girls is the Alambique beach in Isla Verde. The island is much safer for Americans than Brazil, Colombia or Venezuela. Staysafe and good luck.

Puerto Rico has many mixtures, not only Spaniard, Indian and African like everyone say. There are more mixtures like: Italian, Scotchs, Frenchs, etc. Puerto Rico is one of the countries that has one of the most beautiful womens in the world. In the 2000 U.S. Census Puerto Ricans were asked to indicate in which racial categories they consider themselves to belong; 80% described themselves as "white"; 8% as "black"; 12% as "mulatto" and 0.4% as "American Indian or Alaska Native". The thing is that here in Puerto Rico everyone is wonderful!! jaja. Take care, kisses, bye bye.

People in Puerto Rico are mix race but the formula white-black-Native Taino ancestry is not accurate. Taino get almost extinted in the first 50 years after the spanish conquest because of the european diseases and the brutal laboral conditions imposed by the conquerors. the last census where 2,000 pure tainos were counted was at the end of 1600. so their blood is not present in the majority of the Puerto Ricans.

Our Spanish ancestry comes mainly from Canary Islands. from there we inherited our Spanish dialect, a variation of the andaluz spanish spoken today in southern spain by the inhabitants of that region. They are a mix of arabians (the descendants of the moors) and spanish people. Andaluz spanish is the spanish spoken in that region where the last arabian caliphat existed.

We have a strong Canarian influence and they are people that have Berber-Arabian (guanches), spaniard and some Portuguese blood. Due to harsh condition in the canary islands and because of the incentives the spanish goverment gave to the european inmigrants willing to relocate, canarian moved to the island in masses, also with them Corsican, French, German and Irish people moved as well.

The spanish goverment wants people from the islands of europe that were catholic to have a more stable population and to preserve their religious unity.

Our Black blood of course is here and you can perceive it everywhere in certain percentage of our people, words, cousine, music and tradition and it is something to be proud of, because they enriched our culture.

So, yes we are a extremely mixed but we are not just black and white. We had received with open arms people from everywhere because from the time of the slavery we treated slaves as human beings. Slavery was not an institution here.
althougth some masters comitted abuses most of the people gave a fair treatment to the slaves.

Puerto Rican people is in general color blind, lovely, kind and respectful society. But do not be mislead good wives could be found everywhere. I married an inteligent, lovely, beautiful, black colombian lady from Cartagena de Indias.

Hispanics are mixed with African, Spanish, White European, and native Indian. So, yes. That's why u see so many ppl in these Latin countries that are Mulattoes & Mestizos. We're mixed. It all started when the African slaves came over and settled there, then other races came, too.

actually there are 82% white based on the 2000 Census. Puerto Ricans see themselves as white people. other important fact: 23 % of the DNA of every Puerto Rican is native Taino

There are no mixed black-white people in Puerto Rico. It was established during the Spanish occupation that no mixed black-white people are allowed to stay there. I would recommend that you visit some of the other countries that you've mentioned.
