A couple of years ago a bunch of monkeys escaped from a lab i think there are still a few around somewhere in the southwestern area of the island.

There are some escaped monkeys in the southern part of the island. They have spread through the years and are becoming a pain in the *** of many agriculturists. They eat plantations but won't attack humans. There are some neat iguanas all over the island, but they are also escapees.

Lost. at. Sea.
The answer of luiyo is correct.
The wild monkeys that escape a few years ago are very intelligent and they are spreading across the western and central part of the Island. Today is major concern for the agriculture and for the deases that they carry.

In my personal opinion the wild monkeys are the ones that are in the government. I hope we can change them for real monkeys.

No there aren't any wild monkeys. The only monkeys would be if they escaped. The main things you will see in P.R. are cows, chickens, goats, horses, bulls, etc. There are coqui's which are small tree frogs that are completely harmless, but they are very hard to find, however you can always hear them sing 'coqui' at nighttime. There are also a lot of lizards, even some iguanas & lots of wild birds speices like the puerto rican parrot which is endagered & hard to spot. Also snakes & marine animals like manatees, dolphins, marlins, whales etc. There are also lots of caves which have bats. & if you go to Mona Island you can see animals like the Galapagos Islands have like giant sea turtles.

There are wild monkeys in the Island of Desecheo (which is politically part of Puerto Rico) according to the government link below:
http://www.gobierno.pr/DRNA/ZonaCostanera/IslasCayosIslotes/Islasisoletes_I.htm

Here is a couple of links (in Spanish) of what you can find in the island of Puerto Rico:
-http://www.linktopr.com/fauna.html
-(pdf Study of Flora and Fauna) http://www.gobierno.pr/NR/rdonlyres/51B9EC2D-2FDE-4A42-A1AF-A370ED26B225/0/EstudiodeFlorayFaunaNIDCOAggregates.pdf

The wildest animal seems to be the Boa Puertorriqueña, a supposedly inoffensive snake that is in danger of extinction. The people conducting the pdf study above did not observe any.
