Mr. C

Aruba - Is it a good place to take a vacation? Why?

Looking to escape the cold winter for fun, sun, partying, and adventure- excursions. The Island seems small, is there enough to do for a week? What kind of excursions are available on and around the island? If you have been there, what did you think about your stay, the hotel, etc. Thanks! I'll vote for the best answer for points.
Additional Details
OK, I'm getting a little freaked out now that I researched the sex slave thing. But then again, don't you take a risk any time you travel to any foreign place? Any time you leave your familiar surroundings, you are at a disadvantage to those who live there. Hmmmmm????

Aruba is a very nice place to visit. It has great beaches and hotels and plenty of nice restaurants. It also has a few casinos in several of the hotels. There is not much to do in Aruba other than beach stuff. You can tour the island in half a day; you’ll see the lighthouse, a national park that’s kinda like wilderness, a cave with some petroglyphics, and a natural bridge where the water comes under it and washes onto a small beach. There is a tour that takes you in a jeep across some of the desert areas but I would skip this.

You really don't need a car in Aruba, there's not that much to drive to see. Baby Beach is kinda nice but don't feel disappointed if you don't get there. Its not that special. You can easily take a public bus to town from the beach areas. There are lots of water sports in Aruba including jet skis, snorkel and scuba, parasailing and wind surfing and just lounging on the beaches. The casinos are nice, but small. Restaurants are rather expensive. I do recommend the Marriott in Aruba; it’s a great hotel.

We went there a couple years ago and stayed 5 nights.

wasnt some girl kidnapped and allgedely killed there. I wouldnt think it would be a good place. try jamacia

I stayed at a very nice resort there...I think the name was Playa Linda or something like that. But the one thing I really didn't like about Aruba was the wind. Not a breeze, a knock down wind, all the time. Perhaps it depends on the time of year....but it annoyed me!

I just came from Aruba 2 weeks ago. It is a gorgeous island. I stayed at the Renaissance Ocean Suites and they have a private island, the room had a microwave, fridge and lots of space. Regarding activities they have: horseback riding, Jolly Pirates ship ($50 per person they take you for about 4 hours on a pirates boat to some islands with food and drinks), here is a funny looking bus where you tour around the island partying, there are two Latin shows in two different hotels (not like Vegas but the Cuban one is very good), lots of water sports (that you have to pay for), a butterfly garden where you go for free the rest of your stay after you pay the entrance once, casinos, gorgeous beaches (mainly in the Palm Beach area), great shopping (for European goods, not American), there is a Love Tunnel, a baby natural bridge, a natural pool, .... But I don't think that there is such a great nightlife. And yes, it is kind of Small to spend a whole week.

I encourage you to check out Puerto Rico (if you haven't)...it has beautiful beaches, casinos, US currency, no passport needed, more flights, the only rain forest in the US Park System, a cave park with the 3rd largest underground river in the world, an amazing nightlife full of options... www.gotopuertorico.com

Aruba is a great place to vacation. I stayed at the Aruba Hotel (ex-Wyndham). Excellent. Next time I'd like to stay at the Tamarijn though. It's a low-rise hotel, really small and one of the oldest in Aruba. I liked the fact that most of the other guests were repeat visitors (true, some of them, well, ancient), which tells you quite a lot about this lovely place. Aruba is not about being terribly active, it's about relaxing on the beach, swimming in the beautiful sea, making friends, strolling to the restaurants in the evening. I love it! You should go.

Gee...I don't know...are you a good candidate for white slavery, or being raped and/or killed by some imports to that country? Will people miss you when you are gone?
I wouldn't go there & I don't look like Natilie Holloway & have more sense than to go out when no one knows where I will be.

Aruba is a gorgeous island.....But not enuf to do for a whole week unless you are a sun worshipper......there is like one day of sightseeing....Bat Cave, Natural Arch, Island tour.

Night life is quiet, Casinos and a few good clubs. Beaches are gorgeous. Lots of water sports..... shopping is ok ......people are nice. Most hotels are newly renovated....Might want to go all inclusive as dining is very expensive. As far as the kidnapping
I think she was a little too drunk and got taken advantage of and was too trusting......I did same when I was her age .....trusted everyone and had a good time .... in Aruba too.

Jamaica is nice too.....but head to Negril for nice beaches and partying......taking island tours is the way to go....but Negril is
on the western part of island......most tourist attractions are in Ocho Rios and Port Antonio......over 3 hours away. If you stay at an all inclusive in Ocho Rios.....thats another option...and closer to dunns river falls, rain forest, plantation tours, horseback riding in the ocean etc

Well I have a time share there with Marriott Hotels. My parents went one year and the second day they were there they bought their time share. My dad is not a sun person (very light skinned burns easy) My mom is a beach person. They both fell in love with the island. Very beautiful. Beautiful waters. Constant 80-85 degrees but never hot---very breezy. Hardly ever storms. Most hurricanes and such pass by the island. There is anything and everything that has to do with water to do there, golf, clubs, restaurants---delicious. You can grocery shop and cook meals yourself at your hotel or eat out. One side of the island is very rough waters and uninhabited. Something for everyone. We go every year and with the time share we were able to trade some time and go to Hawaii. Check out some of the websites and don't worry about that girl/kidnapping thing. Aruba is actually one of the safest places to go.
