I currently live in Massachusetts and I've gotten the idea about moving to the Bahamas. What is the Bahamas like compared to the US?

It is really hard to move and live here. In order to become a resident you need more than $500,000 in investments in the Bahamas or you need to be married to someone who is a Bahamian Citizen. Even marrying someone who is a citizen here doesn't get you papers for many years...I know people who had to wait 7 years to be a resident after marrying a Bahamian. You also can't work here unless a company buys you the right to work OR once you are a resident, you have to pay over $10,000 to be able to work. It is also expensive to live here. Although there are no income taxes, living expenses are very high. I would never move to Nassau or PI, I would go towards the out islands.

Bahamas is very expensive to live. Rent, groceries, utilities, etc. etc. Gas is 6$ here just to give you an example. Bahamian people are nice. Lots of immigrants from Haiti and Jamaica you can tell by the accent.

The beaches are pretty, there is not much to do. There are museum, zoo, parks but do not expect anything big. The outter islands ( I live in Nassau) are cleaner, prettier and less crowded. Job wise it can be so hard to get a good paying job, you need a work permit. The island has lots of potential the problem is that the gov. does not take full advantage. Life here can be a breeze if you are that type of person. If you want things done "now" this is not the place for you. Once you embrace it and start making friends it can be ok. It all depends on you. I hope this helps.
