If you really want to come to the French West Indies: it really depends on what you're looking for and why u didn't like St-Martin.
I come from Guadeloupe , and I'm pretty sure you can have a good time here in both "sun soaking" or "ecotourism". It may be interesting for you to try. The other advantage here is that it is an archipelago composed of Guadeloupe itself, les Saintes, Marie-Galante and Desirade (St-Martin and St-Barthélémy are also part of it), so you can discover many places for cheap! |

Like the others above have said, it depends what you are looking for in your travels/ vacations.
I get the impression that you aren't so interested in shopping & nightlife?? (because St. Maarten has a fair amount of these)
Are you more interested in the Great Tropical Outdoors and some outdoor adventure?
If so I highly reccommend making a visit to Dominica. (this is NOT the Dominican Republic!) Note that Dominica is a former British Colony, but has a great deal of French in it's history and the French influence is very evident in the local architecture, food, language, and more.

I've been to several Caribbean places. Here's how I rank my visits:
1. Jamaica
2. St. Maarten
3. Grand Cayman
4. St. Thomas, USVI
5. Haiti
6. Mexico
7. The Bahamas
I liked them all though. |

I am a diver, I do not know what you are looking for but the best thing I have found to do is take a cruise that goes to several of the Islands and lets you have some time at each one. This gives you the opportuity to check them out and see which ones may suite you better.
There are several good cruise lines that offer trips right out of Miami and Barbados. |

What are you looking for? Bear in mind that a lot of the islands have comparatively few inhabitants - meaning that facilities and infrastructure can be quite poor. If you want ecotravel, that's great, if you want party towns, that's bad. Be more specific please? |
