I would check out st. thomas, lots to see, shopping and you 'll never want to leave Magen's bay....its like a giant wading pool...gorgeous. also check into St. maarten (not U.S.), i preferred the dutch side of the island, particularly Simpson Bay area/hotels...i could bet your kids would just love a place to dig in the sand and play in the water...these are two great locations

st.Thomas there lots of kid friendly activity like
coki point and coki beach (jet skiing with kids, snorkeling, and have fun at the beach)
coral world(aquariam
Mountain top (learn about the usvi history)
Bluebeard's castle(learn about the pirate history)
and more things i can't remember

Go with St. Thomas. Here's a list of things you can do with the kids:

1. Take an excursion on the Atlantis Submarine.

2. Swim at Magen's Bay Beach.

3. Ride the Paradise Point Tramway http://www.paradisepointtramway.com

4. Take the whole family to eat at the Paradise Gate. They have an arcade there. ;)

5. There's bumper boats, mini golf and games at the Sugar Bay Beach Resort.

6. Visit the world famous Mountain Top. One of the best views on the island. http://www.greathouse-mountaintop.com/

7. Stroll through historic downtown Charlotte Amalie. Lots of great shopping and restaurants.

8. The Coral World Marine Observatory is a must visit! http://www.coralworldvi.com

9. Take a ferry to St. John and check out Coral Bay, Trunk Bay, the St. John National Park, and the Annaberg Ruins.

Depending on the number of children and your budget, you might well consider taking a cruise. There are so many on board activities for children, the food is abundant and FREE, and you get to experience different islands and explore different beaches at the ports of call. All of the major cruise lines have "clubs" for children and teens. I would suggest you check out Disney, Holland America, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Princess, among others. The problem with an island vacation is that there is very little for children to do other than beach stuff. You can, of course, rent a car to visit the island, but the rental can be somewhat expensive, the roads are not all that great, and if you think gas prices are high here, you will be astonished at how expensive it is on the islands! Nonetheless, if you are determined to vacation in the US Virgin Islands, I would recommend St. John, only because it's prettier and the snorkeling is great.

Probley St. Thomas, check out Coki Beach, some great snorkeling there, and food & beverage served right there on the beach, if the kids are young and your mainly interested in the beaches, go to St. John

I would say St Thomas has more of a variety of things to do with a family. It depends on what your family likes to do and how old they are. I'm providing you with links to St Croix, St Thomas and St John

If you have any specific questions, many posters in this category will be most helpful, so ask away.

Good Luck)

St. Thomas has a wider variety of things to do and more commercial areas. St. John is much more low-key and relaxing.
