Best caribbean island vacation sept 20-30th ?! without hurricanes!? |
I was planing a vaca between the dates above and have just become aware that that is prime hurricane season for the islands. I anted to go to st.maarten becuse of the french & dutch & caribbean combined but its not gonna be fun if it storms the whole time so Im looking for another option for the same time period and I need a beech vaca not london or somethin like that. any opinions would be greatly appreciated. (and i herd hawaii is mad expensive not sure how true it is though.) and Im also not interested in mexico or pr or central america Ive herd enough horror stories to not want to go. Additional Details also to add I live in New York and am sick to death of america so outside the US is a must |

In the US, Myrtle Beach is awesome, but it is hurricane season... which mean in ALL the oceans... So any vacation you choose around this time will be more inexpensive... Mexico is actually very nice I have been traveling 3 times a year since I was 15 (8 years) and have not had one negative experience... We typically go to Cabo San Lucas but have also been to Ixtapa, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and Cozumel... It comes highly recommended from me... The people are very hospitable and friendly and the food is more than amazing! I have been only once to Waikiki and our vacation was supposed to last 15 days, on the 3rd day sent myself home... Way too many Japanese and they are ruuuuude! I have heard other islands are nice, but I cannot speak from experience. |

How about Aruba? I believe Aruba is just out of the scope of hurricanes or so I believe that's what I heard when my husband and I were booking our trip there. Check with a travel agent to be sure. I think that is one of the good things going there. It is 16 miles off the coast of Venezuela. |

Curacao offers a great escape from both the world and the hurricanes. Located south of the normal paths taken by most hurricanes, your chances of getting your vacation ruined by one while in Curacao are very small. The island also offers a lot of activities both on land and in the water, great historical locations, cultural heritage, great restaurants and beautiful hotels.
Continental Airlines has direct flights from Newark to Curacao once a week, while American Airlines offers 2 daily flights from Miami. Connections through St. Marten are also possible.

Sahara is right. Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao (collectively known as the ABC Islands) are outside the hurricane belt. In fact the only potential drawback to going in September is that that's when the trade winds that blow most of the year die down and it can get hotter than usual. If you enjoy water sports, that may not be a problem, but if you get a rental car, make sure the air conditioning works (we had one on Curacao with no AC). |

one of the ABC islands Aruba bonaire Curacao or maybe Barbados They are a bit more money but the weather will be great. I dislike Mexico been to Cabo Cancun And Playa all horrible in my opinon to Americanized. hawaii is so so and can be expensive from NY We go to Jamaica in Sept. only because it is so cheap then and so far luck has been on our side. If you live close to Buffalo its not a far drive to Toronto and this website has really cheap packages to the Caribbean all inclusives out of toronto we use them all the time.. They also have packages out of the states. Happy travels

I've been to St.Maarten in the middle of july of this year. I stayed at the sonesta maho beach resort. I loved it although the beach is beautiful, but rough. It will be more rough in the huricane season and the beach isn't huge.
If you go to st.maarten/st.martin you gotta check out philipsburg. The town is filled with tons of stores with jewlery, perfume/cologne, clothes , alcohol for cheap. Plus theirs no tax their.
the best beach on the island is in st.martin, french side and its called orient beach.
Your taking a risk with a vacation in the hurricane season. It doesnt mean it will storm the whole week. good luck. |
