Best resort in Dominican Republic?

Im looking to go away in September to the Dominican Republic and was wondering if anyone could suggest the best resort for ultimate chill-out, also if anyone has had any bad experiences out there that would be worth mentioning or resorts to stay away from?

As a VIP inbound tout operator I can name you quite e few excellent resorts in the Dominican Republic. You must take a choice between the two main destinations :
# 1 Puerto Plata or # 2 Punta Cana. The difference is that in Punta Cana the beach is narrow but beautiful and there is outside the resorts not much to do or discover. On the other hand in Puerto Plata (Playa Dorada) the beach is fabulous (13 km) and there is much more to do outside the resorts. In 10 min by public transportation you are in town ! You will find also Ocean World (swimming with the dolphins) and so many more things to do and to discover. Nearby there is the famous spot of the beginning of the new world ( Columbus) and there is also Isabella de Torre (cable car). Around and near Puerto Plata you have as much you like of 3,4 and 5 stars resorts and even "boutique" resorts. One of them is listed #1 in the world.... I hope this will help you a bit making your choice.

-----------------------------
This resort is part of the Breezes brand of SuperClubs all-inclusives, with signature activities such as trapeze and rock-climbing wall.
_____________
Casa de Campo

The name means "country house", but don't let that humble moniker fool you: this is a prominent DR resort with many villas and residences, 7000 acres, equestrian center, 16th century Italian village (!), kids' programs, golf course, water polo...
_________________
Club Med Punta Cana

Club Med Punta Cana has a host of activities: archery, trapeze, Crunch Fitness, whale-watching outings...
___________
Coral Resorts
--------------------
Known for some years as the "Coral by Hilton" brand, these four family-friendly all-inclusive resorts in the DR offer watersports, kids' program, drinks, meals, snacks, and all the usual conveniences and pleasures of an all-inclusive getaway. (Spa, scuba, and golf are extra.) Three Coral resorts are on the south (Caribbean) coast of the DR; the Coral Marien is in the north.
________________
Coral Marien Resort

The Coral Marien resort is in the north of the DR, near Playa Dorado and the busy town of Puerto Plata (which has an airport.) Snorkeling outings take guests to a nearby coral reef (at an extra charge.)
________________________

In the Punta Cana area; features lush landscaping, ponds, open-air restaurants, and decor with local stones, coconut, and cane. Mini-Club for ages 2 to 12. Kids like seeing peacocks, ducks, flamingos, roaming the grounds or in the lagoons.

sosua is fab, i stayed in a pretty basic hotel and had a great holiday, the staff made it one big party really taking care of us. The beach at sosua is protected from the atlantic and swimming is really good. I visited the south where they made the barcardi advert yrs ago it was lovely too but the water very cloudy due to the sand being so fine. Dont forget to try their rum its delicious and strong!! there's loads to do out there, change money on the beach you get a better exchange rate even though the reps will tell you not too. if you get jelly belly when you arrive pop into a local bar on the beach and ask for lime and soda it will have you better in no time. By the way it gets extremely hot so good sun cream required! On way home met others who had stayed in 4-5 star and said worst holiday ever, bad bellys and watered down drinks with poor entertainment. So glad I stayed where i did, will post hotel if i can find the name

Oh im goin to the breezes resort in puerto plata in Feb!
I have read a lots of reviews, but quite a few have been bad ones :(

People complain about petty little things in the apartments but who goes to stay in their rooms all day anyway! lol

My daughter was in Dominican Republic and it was a five star complex but although the hotel was nice she didn't like the resort as there was nothing there - she didn't book the Dominican she was in Mexico and hit by hurricane Wilma few years ago and eventually was taken to Dominican for a few days.
