Can a US citizen travel to Cuba with just a birth certificate and avoid the "kiss of death" on your passport?

I've heard you can get into Cuba with just your US birth certificate--of course, you still need a passport to travel on the plane, no?--so can you do that and avoid a stamp on your passport and any proof of your visit to Cuba? Looking for guidance here--I've been to Cuba twice, legally, with a church group but I need to get back this summer to visit some friends. The logistics are killing me. Any help is appreciated more than you know.

Cuba doesn't usually stamp your passport for this very reason. I *wanted* a stamp (as a souvenir) and had to ask for it especially.

You need a passport and they do not stamp them, you get a tourist visa which is good for 30 days. If you are not going by plane, you will need to apply for one at least two months before you go. If by plane, they will provide it for you.

Well since there's a new law that you have to have a passport to leave the U.S. by air, I would say no. If you're traveling by boat/ship, I believe you can still use a birth certificate accompanied by a photo ID.

They give you a tourist card which you have to return when you leave, and don't stamp US passports unless you aske them to do so.
