Jamaica is a beautiful country. You cannot get the true feel in a couple of days. You need stay at least a week and mix with the locals. Like every country, Jamaica has the rich, the poor and the in-between, and like every other country there are the good and the bad. Many tourists come and stay at the all- inclusive hotels, but how can you stay in, and experience the culture?
Please dont use any indecent and offensive language to the locals. They will think very little of you! Jamaicans are some of the warmest people in the world, always willing to help where they can, unlike some of countries that I have visited. IMO, the weather and the people are what attacts tourists, as far as I see, because there is no grandiose architecture, historical building etc. when compared say to European countries, but try and beat them on the beaches and great weather all year round! You cant, not even during the hurricane season, as only two months September and October get really rainy and hurricane- possible. Eco-tourism is also alive and well there.
Visitors need to get away from the North Coast and head to anywhere else on the island. To mention some, Portland is probably the only parish where the unspoilt natural beauty still abounds, probably because it is the only parish where the possibility of rain exists daily. It does not last long and the last time I visited there was none. Portmore is the fastest growing community in Jamaica, Kingston is where its at, but without the beaches and associated activites, Swimming pools will have to do, but anything else you want is available. St Thomas and Clarendon are home to popular springs which are declared to have healing properties. Manchester is the parish of returning residents especially from the UK, as the climate is cooler there than elsewhere. St Elizabeth is the home of Black River and Lovers Leap. Check them out.
Transportation is not timely as in other countries but is readily available. The food is great, properly seasoned with local spices before cooking. Check out the jerk chicken, pork and fish....mmm quite tasty. The dialect is a delight to listen to, but not easy to speak because of the accent, LOL I could go on and on and on, like that battery, but you could just google 'Jamaica' and read more for yourself. You could start also with discoverjamaica.com |

Lovely been there twice, stayed in montego bay and negril.the west side of the island has the best beaches.Same as everywhere you have to be careful about where you go.Went for a meal in the hills above Montego Bay and the restaurant owner only had 1 arm and told us that he was robbed at home and they cut his arm off .Barbados is a more friendly island but much smaller, worth hiring a car to get around--enjoy yourself |

DOnt say that to a Jamaican because he will think you are trying to diss him. They dont like it when you try to twang they might not laugh in your face but they may try to twang like you. REMEMBER Some jamaicans will try to hustle you or sell u something a little more expensively because you may not know the currency so well. STILL Jamaica is an all exclusive getaway from stress. even though it's not crime free it still is a woneerful place for music and fun in the sun. If you See our many attractions you will never want to leave. Take it from me I have lived here all my life and still living. I am Jamaican, black and proud, likkle but mi talawa |

The word is "bumboclawte," and don't ever tell a Jamaican this, unless you are laughing. |

Jamaica is one of the most beautiful places on earth however what is most shocking when you go there is the extreme poverty of the common people. If you want to be sheltered from this than make sure you get a "all inclusive package". This way you never have to leave the comforts of the resort. Also it is scorching hot. A really dry heat. You should always use sunblock 24/7 when going outdoors. It rains almost everyday but only for about 30 minutes. There is a lot to do. I bought some goods from the native people who make their goods and sell them to the tourist. I even got my daughter's hair braided by a local woman. They really know how to braid. There is only one airport so be early for your flight. |
