The answer is no ! your G.card is 4 your immigration status in the U.S.A. main land only.
To leave from the U.S. to other country, you must have a passport from your country of origin.
Without passport you'll not be able to leave or enter the U.S.....you must Re-new your Jamaican passport.
Good luck. |

All these answers are right.....and they're also wrong.
The issue is not that you can't get into Jamaica, the issue is you can not ever leave ! At the airport, the carrier your flying will ask for your ticket & passport. If the passport is not valid, you'll never even see the airplane ! |

You can travel to Jamaica with your expired passport, however you will not be able to re-enter the U.S. Entering the U.S requires a valid passport. One option is to fly to Jamaica with the expired passport and while you are in Jamaica you could go to the embassy and have your passport renewed their. I had a client who just did that in August, she got her passport renewed while in Jamaica and was able to return to the U.S. I'm not sure how long your stay will be in Jamaica, however if you will be there for about 2 weeks you can have it done. |

Why dont you go to the closest Jamaican consulate and apply for an emergency passport? It is only valid for one trip. While in Jamaica you can apply for a Jamaican passport. You would get it quicker down there and its cheaper than applying abroad. |

okay alot of answers here but here's the best advice go tomorrow and renew your passport(any post office will do it) its that simple if you pay the extra fee to fast track it you'll have it in 2-3 weeks (actual time it took me was 10 days but you are dealing with the holiday) simple resolution to your problem (you can now neither travel to anywhere in the Caribbean or return to the US without a valid passport period) good luck and enjoy your trip |

This is a messy situation. You are relying on the discretion of the immigration officers you encounter. If you have a US drivers licence (proper ID), you MIGHT be allowed to leave the USA, but you WILL NOT be allowed to return unless you have a valid passport.
On the Jamaican side, they could also deny you entry (on the basis of inadequate ID to establish that you are a Jamaican), but denying you entry is technically illegal since they would be deporting a Jamaican citizen from Jamaica!
If you want to be ensured a good flight, GET A NEW PASSPORT.
EDIT:
Airlines themselves don't really CARE if you have a passport or not, as long as you have "sufficient ID" and documentation as stipulated by the destination and local immigration officials. |

When U.S. Citizens must HAVE A PASSPORT to re-enter the U.S. then WHY would you think YOU can just use your green card? The days of crossing into the U.S. with nothing more than an old utility bill ARE GONE FOREVER... you MUST HAVE A PASSPORT and they don't really CARE if you don't have time to get it renewed... HAVING A PASSPORT is YOUR responsibility... it is NOT the responsibility of the U.S. Government. |
