oh word ?

Can someone tell me how awesome San Juan is ?

I just got over my fear of flying and really want to go on a vacation. I live in Tampa so San Juan is a very short flight, and no passport required. Can anyone tell me if it's a nice place to visit or should I get a passport and check out another island?
What are the people like?
Food?
Is it safe?

Hello. Yes San Juan is an awesome city to visit. You will like it. You can see a gigantic castle like fort that was built over 500 years ago by the spanish. Its called El Morro. There are lots of other historical sites to see in Old San Juan also. Its really nice. Of course its like any other big city with traffic & pollution & all that as well. But its still nice. There are also some great restaurants, casinos, stores & nightclubs in San Juan you will always be entertained. The food is delicious & the water & food are safe to consume. PR is safe for tourists & the people are nice & love to have fun. Also I agree with the other guy that you should also try to rent a car & get out of San Juan. You can go to El Yunque rain forest, Camuy Caves, Arecibo Telescope & some gorgeous beaches. Check out the video below. Enjoy :)

Puerto Rico is an amazing Island. Of course, there are places where the crime rate is high, but if you think about it, unfortunately the high crime rates are being attributed to different cities in all of the states. It just depends on where you go and with whom. San Juan is a very touristic place though, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

As far as the comment made by another person, Puerto Rico has two official languages, and they are English and Spanish, so you should have no trouble getting around and getting help from people. Puerto Ricans are very friendly people, and I'm sure that you'll enjoy your time here, regardless of where you go. I would agree with what the other person had to say though, you should not only visit San Juan, but enjoy your vacation in other cities such as Fajardo, Vieques, etc. There are lots of places you can go.

The food in Puerto Rico is truly one of a kind. It's somewhat similar to Spanish and Mexican cuisine, but it has a blend of Spanish, Mexican, African, Taino and American influences. You will love the food here. We generally call our food "comida criolla" -- you will love it. I promise!

I hope that you enjoy your time here in Puerto Rico..

San Juan is seriously over rated. It's a very dirty city, with an uncomfortable crime rate, and the beaches there are lousy.

Fly to San Juan, at the airport get a taxi to take you to the ferry in Fujardo, on the east coast. It will take about an hour and cost you about $80 with tip. Get on the ferry to Vieques ($2) which will take about an hour. Vieques is a wonderful, laid back little island with beaches to die for. You can go on line and find all kinds of little rooming houses. If you want to be right in the middle of things, book a room at Bananas in Esparanza. If you want quiet and little 'nicer', book a room at the Crow's nest. (The restaurant there is one of the best on the island) You'll need to rent a car, but it will be an amazing experience. While you're there be sure to take the tour of the bio bay. You'll never regret it.

if you want to stay in the east of the island go to :www.tropicalbeachomerentalpuertorico.co...

Puerto Rico is a whole lot safer than some crime riddled island like Jamaica. Other than for the language, San Juan is very much like small cities in Florida.. you will like it.. and it's a good first trip out of the U.S... but DO get a passport because you will need it after June 2009...

lady dee
yeah, Im here!

go to the west, north and east side of the island and the sister islands vieques and culebra, you will love it!

nothing to see in central and southern part unless you go to Ponce which is cool.
