YES... when you address an envelope to Haiti, the final line needs to read: HAITI, W.I. (west indies)... at least that is how I got my mail when I LIVED in Haiti. |

Yep, there can be no doubt when you refer to Haiti as part of the West Indies.. it is the western portion of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic to the East). This was one of the islands visited by Columbus when he thought he had sailed to India, wrong hemisphere, but the name "Indies" stuck. Ergo, Haiti is part of the West Indies.

Yes. We in the TCI are perhaps its nearest (detached) neighbour. We are certainly in the West Indies and so are all the other neighbouring islands -- so why challenge Haiti's right to be part of the West Indies? |

We go up as far as Puerto Rico and Jamaica, and maybe the Bahamas, but not really Haiti. |
