The answer to your question is YES....you can use Canadian dollars in Cuba but they will give you such a POOR exchange rate and rip you off when taking your money that you are better off with using local currency.......... many will see you as a tourist and quote you prices in US dollars but ask for the price in PESO and you will get the best rate.......... with a little bargain!!!!

No you will change it to convertible pesos, CUC when you arrive either at the airport or your resort. Convertible pesos have no value outside Cuba so it's best you use them up before you leave or change them back to Canadian at the airport. I like to hang on to a few for my next visit but that is up to you. I returned to Canada on December 14. A couple of days earlier I paid about $180.00 Cdn. for 150 Convertible Pesos. You can check the approximate rate on the site below.

Tropicales
You can only use Cuban Convertible Pesos CUC when in Cuba. You can't convert your money here, but you can convert at the airport or at the resorts. It's better to use CAD money and not US funds. They will charge a fee for converting US. Don't convert all your money at once so you don't lose in the exchange rate. Just change as you need.
Keep in mind to always get a receipt at the time of exchange.

At your orientation meeting, your tour operator will tell you everything you need to know about money exchange and what the best suggestions are.

Enjoy your trip!

You will need to exchange your canadian dollars to the Cubian convertible peso to use in stores, restaurants and hotels.

good luck)

No.

Cuban pesos (CUC and CUC), and in some places euros.

Everything else needs to be changed.

Jacqui
You can only use Cuban Convertible Pesos (CUC) when in Cuba. Unfortunately you can't convert your money outside of Cuba, but you can convert it at the airport or at the resort. If you do it at the airport, go stand in line while the person you're with is waiting for the bags or else you'll have a LONG line to wait in. Make sure you exchange your money from CAD, they'll charge you a 10% fee for exchanging US dollars.
Enjoy your trip, I'm going in a few weeks!!!
