Antigua would be ideal for your first stop. As for flight information, you would be better off consulting a travel agent. They are always up to date with best prices, flights, etc since they depend on getting their commission by getting their clients the very best deals.
As for a look at what Antigua has to offer (besides 365 LOVEly beaches, friendly, warm, accommodating people and exquisite local meals) got to http://www.adventureantigua.com/... and http://www.antiguanice.com |

Being a Dominican resident I am clearly biased. But I have also spent time in most parts of the Caribbean, and finally settled here, so maybe that counts for something.
The all-inclusive resorts here are as good as any, and better than most. It's a huge land, as big as the UK, and with an extraordinary variety of scenery. Out of 11 UN classifications of terrain type worldwide, we have 7 here. The highest mountains in the Caribbean, and the most sandy beaches, so whatever you are looking for we have it.
The high-season is just coming to an end so your prices and availability are much better than for the last three or four months. In which case I would suggest looking at La Romana/Bayahibe area, Globalia Canoa, Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, and Wyndham Dominicus are my favorites locally. Otherwise Bavaro, with a multitude of resorts, mostly good value at this time of year.
Jamaica is a whole other story, do some checking first on the internet, people's experiences, you may think twice. Cuba is great, but still developing, the infrastructure, roads etc are not up to much, so for a two week holiday you may be pushing it. Your best bet is to book a central hotel to your intended area and use that as a hub, if you just turn up you will be paying twice as much. Of course much depends on what standard you want for your money. Here in the DR there are very cheap, clean hotels that can be used as motels, for as little as 30 usd per room per night, but they are primarily used for amorous purposes, and may not quite suit your requirements.
Spending money here, not too much, again depending on what you want, Dominicans can live well on 100 usd per person per month ! So if you try to sample local living you can live very cheaply indeed, but it won't be what you are used to at home.
Whatever you decide to do, have fun, and be careful. Some tips :
1. Plenty of bug spray for the evenings, it's not just the annoyance, mosquitos inject you with a bit of what the last person they bit has in their blood.
2. Plenty of sun screen highest factor possible, avoid the Red Lobster look !
3. Don't go out and about wearing all your best jewellery, use your common sense, people who can live on 100 bucks a month don't have the same values as you do.
4. Don't be afraid to be adventurous in the DR or Cuba, the people are wonderful, and the further away from the usual tourist areas the better. The same may not be true for Jamaica, venture out of the protected resort areas at your peril.....Sorry Jamaica, you're a wonderful, beautiful island, with the majority of the people some of the nicest in the Caribbean, but your criminal element are screwing it for you.
5. Don't drink anything that didn't come out of a bottle whose seal you broke yourself, and be very careful with the ice.
6. Don't be afraid to say an emphatic "No, gracias !" to the hustlers, believe it or that will usually do the trick. That's the same all over the Caribbean, but the 'gracias' is for Cuba and the DR, or Mexico, Guatamala, Honduras, Marguarita etc etc
7. Ask if you need any more tips. |

Spending money - when me and my partner travel to the caribbean, we usually aim to do 4 trips for a 2week break, and have 2 trips per week... and bring £800 spending money, and ALWAYS have loads left over...! It will depend on how often you want to travel outside the hotel, whether you are happy enough on the beach or by the pool...
Worse ways... everywhere expects Visa!!
have a great time wherever you choose.. |

Well I recommend St.Vincent & the Grenadines(I live there) the Grenadines(our chain of small islands) are the best, if you're looking for a cheap island try Bequia or Union Island....they're all really beautiful.

Contact tourist information in the Country you are going to. Ask for listing of boarding houses. most will have web sites. Book your flights through Newmont travel. It will mean living with the locals but you will get a true taste of the islands. |
