I've been to Maui and most of the Caribbean. St. Kitts is a small island with a very large volcano. Jamaica, St. Lucia and some others are very lush. Aruba is semi-arid, which reminded me of a large part of Maui.

The beaches of many Caribbean islands, especially Aruba and Dominican Republic, easily beat Maui. But I don't find the Caribbean culture is as fun and interesting as the Hawaiian culture.

In many ways, Hawaii and the Caribbean have the same appeal. If you live in the eastern half of the U.S., then a vacation in the Caribbean is better than Hawaii simply because of the time difference and jet lag if nothing else.

I have been to most of them including Hawaii and St John in the US Virgin Islands is like Hawaii. Not nearly as crowded though.

I have never been to Hawaii but I have been to Grenada. From pics of Hawaii, I'd say it bears a striking resemblance in some ways to Maui or Kauai.

Puerto Rico definitely. Although Spanish is mostly spoken & there arent any Volcanoes, but mostly everything else is similar. They have the beaches & the beautiful mountians. San Juan is a big city like Honolulu. & PR is a US territory so the currency is USD & you find all the american chain stores like Walmart, walgreens, JCPenney, McD's & even the high end stores like Gucci, etc. The food & water are safe to consume. & they took coqui frogs from PR & put them in Hawaii, so Hawaiins are used to the song they sing & you will hear that in PR too. The culture is different, but it is just as rich :)

JAMAICA

Bajan Princess =]
Although it is my opinion that no place can really be matched up to Hawaii i would say that Barbados comes very close! =)

St. Lucia is similar to Hawaii, but the vegetation/landscape only. And you have to squnt to see it. But certainly the St. Lucians and the Hawaiians are very different culturally.
