It's safe, as long as you obey the basic rules for traveling alone.

Don't go wandering of on your own in strange, uncrowded places
Especially at night, be carefull where you move around
When moving, if you do not have a rented car, have the phone number from a cab that the hotel called for you to pick you up where you are.
And just be carefull about how you move around.

PS>> Curacao and Bonaire are great for scuba diving.

I personally would not go to the Dominican Republic on my own.

To Sunlover above - Dominica and the Dominican Republic are two totally different places.

You just have to be a smart traveller, I travel the world as part of my job, sometimes I'm by myself but I love it, I meet people from all over the world, but I don't put trust in everyone I meet, crimes, etc occur in every country so it's up to you to keep safe and keep your wits about you. I always find buying a very good travel guide helps if you are visiting a destination that you have never been too. ( Frommers.com )

Happy planning

=)

yeah you'll be as safe there as anywhere else in the world, as long as you don't put yourself in bad situations. You can get harrassed anywhere, as long as you have common sense then i don't see a problem. People say guys in WI harrass the tourist girls but it's no different from your local bars or clubs, if your not interested just tell them so.....men the world over don't like their pride being dented so there not gonna stalk you for turning them down more that guys over here would.
Hair colour isn't important blonde will get as much as a brunette or redhead would. Go for it and enjoy.

I personally wouldn't like to be in Dominica on my own. Been there. Unless you book in a hotel especially for singles. Safest bet. Lovely beaches and the diving great though.
