Carribbean Choices....?

Ok me and my Husband are trying to find a place to go on vacation in the Carribbean.

Here is what I want:

1. Comfortable bed - romantic

2. View of the ocean

3. Good food

4. Nice hospitable people

5. Clean

6. Options to do things if we get bored on the beach

This is first time - I want to make it memorable.

Negril, Jamaica is a lovely choice. Sandals has always been first rate in all of the above categories. We love it there. Check out tripadvisor.com for reviews of this and any other place your interested in. It's a great site with so much information you could spend hours. Hope this helps you to find a place that's just perfect for you.

Go to Curacao, and stay at either the Avila Beach Hotel or the Lions Dive resort. Both these have a very nice complex, very comfortable rooms and are right on the beach, so the ocean view will be in (do request a room with ocean view).
My option however would still be the Avila Beach hotel, and I know that the food here is of the chart good. It is one of the most beautiful hotels on the island, in my opinion second only to the Kura Hulanda Hotel in downtown otrabanda (which I do recommend you to visit and look at).
The Avila is not too far from the downtown shopping and historic district, so either a rented car, or just a cab to get there will so.
Lion Dive resort is next door to the Curacao Sea Aquarium and Mambo beach (where you can go for swimming, eating or partying)

Other great stuff on the island are:
Ostrich Farm
Marcos Fish Farm
National Parks
Hato Caves
and some very beautiful beaches across the southern and western coast of the island.

I highly recommend the British Virgin Islands (not the same as the U.S.V.I.). We've stayed on Tortola (the main island)twice, and taken the ferry for day trips to Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke. The whole of the British Virgin Islands are absolutely beautiful and very laid back.

Each time, we've rented a villa with gorgeous views and complete privacy. Check out cvillas.com or cyberrentals.com (or lots of online sites). There's something incredibly romantic about having an entire home to yourself -- and some of the villas are absolutely incredible, private pools, outdoor showers, hammocks, etc. Check out the prices, often they are less than hotels.

If you go to the British Virgin Islands, you'll find lots of wonderful & friendly people (with no pan-handling in our two trips), great food, beautiful beaches, and a very safe environment (no "bad" areas that tourists must avoid). Tortola is the "main" island, with the most villas, hotels, resaurants, etc -- but it is not very developed compared to a lot of other Caribbean islands. The population is relatively small (~18,000 total, I think), with no high rise hotels, casinos, or American franchises. Make sure to take a ferry to Virgin Gorda to check out The Baths (awesome beach with huge boulders making grottoes and paths), and jump on a catamaran for some snorkeling.

Enjoy!

I HIGHLY recommend that you check out the MANY hotels/resorts the Dominican Republic has to offer. There are many located on the beaches, the entire country is filled with hospitable/welcoming people. Food in DR is incomparable to anything else. I know that if you check it out, you'll be going back for years to come. You won't regret it!
