I would definitely recommend you stick w/ American Airlines. They have the most flights in and out of Dom. Rep. so if you miss your flight or have any problems you stand a better chance of getting a replacement seat on another flight. Also, if you buy your ticket w/ AA and the price goes down they will refund you the difference.
Connecting at MIA is usually your best option so that you'll have a short connecting flight to Dom. Rep.
The "L" Word
There are no direct flights to Puerto Plata from O'Hare. You will have to fly to connect in Atlanta (with Delta Airlines), Miami (with American Airlines), Newark (with Continental Airlines), or San Juan (with American Airlines).
