In Juan Dolio and Puerto Plata there a lot cheap nice hotels! Avoid Punta Cana if you want cheap, however the best hotels are in Punta Cana!

There are good cheap hotels all over the country. Go to one of the sites that has a discussion board about the Dr such as http://www.lifeinthedr.com and ask about which town/city you are looking for and someone with give you good recomendations.

So where in the DR are you interested in?

Not all are roach infested pig pens. Just ask about the area you are interested in.

Santo Domingo is probably your best entertainment, if you mean getting out into the old city and dining and dancing.

depending on what you mean by cheap, Barcelo Capelo in Juan Dolio and the Coral Hilton Hamaca in Boca Chica are close to Sto Dgo and not too expensive. They are all inclusives.

the only ones I know of downtown Sto Dgo are more expensive, sofitel and nicolas de ovando.

There is a nice hotel in las descubiertas, cheap near Lake Enriquillo but I think thats too far off the beaten path for you.

Aloha Sol in Santiago is nice, about 60$ a night with breakfast.

the occidental Gran Bahia in Samana is another all inclusive, and its beautiful.

you can find some culture in Santiago, Id say its 2nd best to Sto Dgo, and Aloha Sol is nice, ive stayed there a few times.

Er, cheap hotels are not that good. They suck. && the best and good hotels are in Punta Cana.
I like the Majestic Hotel.
Its very nice. People great you. It has a 24 hour buffet. They have different buffets such as Seafood to Chinesee.
I've been there., its fantastic. And they have a wetbar! :D
Ask for the Majestic Drink there. Its faboulous.
And the drinks at the wetbar are free. The rooms are amazingg too.

One of the WORST HORROR STORIES I like to tell is about one night I stayed in a cheap hotel in downtown Santo Domingo... Everything was CRAWLING... the WALLS... the BED.. the FLOOR... believe me... you DON'T want to stay in a CHEAP HOTEL in the Dominican Republic.
