Crime Statistics in Caribbean.?

Does anyone know of a website that shows crime
statistics in Caribbean countries? I read about
some incidences that are now making me nervous.

Many of the Caribbean countries are experiencing higher crime rates right now. You will find people immigrating from one island to another and not always legal. They can't find jobs and stealing and other crimes are committed.
Just follow the same rules you follow at home when traveling. Be aware of your surrounding, don't flash money or jewelry. Don't carry your life in your wallet or purse. Don't travel late at night in dark areas. Lock your doors. Don't leave valuables in a rental car, not even in the trunk.
Carry only the money you will need for the day or night.

I don't know of any web site that gives island by island crime statistics. Sorry.

Crime is every where. Be aware and don't be a target.

There are a very large number of countries in the Caribbean, and many of them have a large number of different Islands. There are islands which are very unsafe, and islands on which nothing ever happens... ever. (good or bad!). In general the big 'cruise ship' pull-ins attract a lot of crime, and there are islands that have deep seated political problems. One or two (for some reason, the ex-dutch colonies seem to be among the worst) have uneasy racial attitudes. The UK virgin islands are amongst the Caribbean countries with the lowest crime. The countries on the Caribbean coast of South America generally have the worst.

Take care in places with a poor economy and a troubled political history, like Jamaica and the Dominican Republic (Not Dominica).

Most of the islands in the Caribbean have lower crime rates by far than in the US. Many of the smaller islands have almost no crime to speak of. Countries such as Jamaica, Haiti and The Dom Rep. have very high crime rates though. It is generally a fallacy that "most" countries in the Caribbean have high crime rates if compared to the United States...

Hmmm why single out the Caribbean? I won't deny crime is high, but crime is in every country of the world. Take Italy, it's a beautiful country to visit, but yet it has its share of crime.

In my opinion, it's just a matter of knowing what places to visit when you get to a country and where to avoid. I'm sure your state has crime and you know the areas to avoid, the caribbean is no different.

However, some tips, don't flash wads of cash in front of the locals and try to impress them. Don't carry the most expensive gadgets and try to impress people...vacation is suppose to be fun, so just go and have fun.

I don't know about exact statistics but all of the crime rates all over the caribbean are fairly high. Drugs are a major problem. Poverty and poor economies contribute to the problem. But when you think about it the incidences that you are hearing about could probabaly happen anywhere. But you do need to be careful and travel in groups. NEVER go anywhere alone especially at night.

how about you check the crime statistics in your country first, and work on that.

you can just google it, it should be able to tell you. Jamaica is very high due to the severity of poverty. But when you vacation, as it sounds that you are, you will be in protected area.
