Because Jamaica is small as the size of Connecticut. You cant compare crime of America and Jamaica because America is huge. If you compare the crime of Jamaica to the state of Connecticut then you will see why its a big deal.

I remembered living in Jamaica and at the end of the year they would compare the crime of NYC and Jamaica. Back in the early 90's the homicide rate in NYC was like over 3000 people a year. Now NYC is one of the biggest safest city in America with the homicide rate of under 650 people every year. Remember Jamaica has about 2.8 million people but NYC have 8 million people that is why the crime rate in Jamaica is a big deal.

But it has gotten worst over the past few months and nobody seems safe. It is truly the murder capital of the world

We were just there, judging from the news reports they have their fair share of crime. There were killings of officials, they have a most wanted list posted int the paper ( only a few of the photos were available) Lets not be fooled to think that there is nay place in the world that there any country in this world that is free from crime. If one person is killed , rape, or abused in any way that is to much. Jamaica is very much like America. I found it very funny I went to the store looking for things made in Jamaica( found ony a few) I told the clerk what i was looking for he told me to try ...CHIPS AHOY.

We enjoy JAMAICA each time we visit. the same safety percautions you take in AMERICA take them in JAMAICA

While crime happends everywhere, and numbers may seem to be in the same range, it is important to look at the per capita rates. Jamaica is miniscule in population size when compared to America.

Crime is normal but our murder rate is over the wall... we have three times the murders in the whole state of New York here per year.

Princess_Diva
Jamaica is much smaller. Florida for example is 15 times the size of Jamaica. You can't compare an island with a country!! If something happens in Kingston, everyone in Manchester or St. Ann hears. Now in USA, if something happens in Miami, chances of hearing of it in Palm Beach is slim. Imagine something happening in New York, Floridians hearing about it is very very very slim, unless it makes headline news!
