Cuba? Cuba? Cuba? Cuba? Cuba? |
I am just dying to go there! I have seen the pictures, and I love the beaches, the atmosphere, the music, colors, rum, MOHITOS!
But a friend of mine went there and said that the reality has nothing to do with our perception!!!
What is your opinion? Do you think it is a good place for a vacation/honeymoon? |

It's a great place if you have no conscience.
You will be giving hard currency to a government that doesn't give a dam about it's people.
Contrary to the crap that people like Michael Moore want you to believe,
living conditions in Cuba are atrocious.
Check out what REAL Cuban healthcare is like:

I suggest you take the advice of one of the other posters and go to Hawaii. At least you won't be taking advantage of another human being for YOUR enjoyment. |

Cuba sound alright. If I were you I'd go for Hawaii. Much beautiful place ever I have seen in my life!! |

I too would love to some day visit Cuba. I've been hearing about the beaches and all sorts of scenic places since I was a child. Some day I hope to see for myself. As far as the pictures you may see, well, lets just say they only show you the prettier sights on the brochures and pamphlets. Don't believe everything your read.
I hear it's fine for vacations. Tourist are treated like royalty. (While the natives are deprived of everything available to the tourist) However, do not expect to have luxury. This is a country in a lot of distress and poverty. I do not think of Cuba as the best honeymoon destination. (Yes, Hawaii would make a much better destination) Lots of luck. |

Cuba like anywhere has its good and bad points. The beaches are absolutely BEAUTIFUL, but keep in mind, it is very poor country. You will fall in love with the culture it is rich and the people are absolutely beautiful and kind. I would go to Havana, or along the coast where there is tourism. I have not been since I was little, but I am dying to go back.

If you want to go to Cuba it will depend on the country you are from what visa you need. Have a look here http://fascinating-travel-destinations/cuba-information.html If you scroll to the bottom of the page you will find a link under visa with all the information you need.
There are different kinds of holiday in Cuba. You can go to resort by a beach in nice hotels, but not really with much of a feel of Cuba, or go touring the country.
It is a very poor country, but the people do rely on tourists bringing in money and paying them in convertible pesos which are worth more. So it actually helps them if you go and give them a job.
Staying in Casa Particulares which are like bed and breakfast places - the owners do this as their job because it earns them more than many other jobs .
The people are very musical, and it is certainly a very different destination. It really depends on what kind of travel you like to do whether you would enjoy it.Just don't go in the hurricane season!

I've been to a couple of places in the caribbean and Cuba is by far my favourite place!
Crystal-clear waters, nice beaches, great cigars, Moritos (not mohito), great cuban music.
And most of all, cuban people are wonderful! |

I have travelled all over the world, seen many tropical islands and the
most beautiful is still Cuba. It is indeed a poor country with some problems, but the population is very kind.

I travelled independently in Cuba for 2 weeks and visited 6 cities earlier this year, and I would definitely recommend it as a place to visit. For me, Cuba was an amazing place to go to see great old cars, smoke Cuban cigars, watch amazing music and dance shows, drink mojitos, visit great beaches, eat amazing seafood and learn about the history of the Cuban revolution.
On the negative side, Cuba was hard work to travel in! Bus and train timetables are often hard to find, unpredictable or incorrect. Plus there are tourist and local busses, and it is difficult or impossible to get on the locals only busses. But, in saying that, we often paid the same, or less, than a bus for a taxi ride between cities. But be warned, make sure you set your price before you agree to anything! If not, you'll probably find that the price is higher than you expected.
We stayed in Casa Familias - rooms in family homes (very independent though). These were really reasonably priced (around $30 a night) and for a small extra charge usually would provide great breakfasts ($3) and dinners (between $7-$10).
Be careful about drinking the water, or drinking drinks with ice. I got really sick, but I'd been travelling for 5 months in Latin America and really wasn't careful about what I ate or drank so I could have picked up my germs anywhere.
From what I understand, staying in the resorts in Cuba is a completely different experience - very relaxing, amazing beaches etc. I didn't go, but if you end up going to a resort, I would really recommend visiting Havana, and probably one of the smaller cities also, to see the sights and "real" Cuba. A night out drinking Mojitos and seeing live Cuban music is not to be missed!
Have an amazing time! |

The reality is, Cuba is very definitely a great place to go for a honeymoon or vacation. The beaches are terrific, the scenery fantastic, there's no shortage of activities to keep you going day and night. Cubans are proud of their country, they welcome visitors with open arms and will treat you like visiting royalty. Chances are if you you go once you will return again and again. Check the sites below they contain tons of information. |

It's a beautiful place to go to for a vacation and a honeymoon.
The beaches, atmosphere, music, colors, rum, and MOJITOS are ALL not a perception, but are a reality.
What makes it attractive and beautiful is that the Cubans are wonderful people, very warm, hospitable and true to their heart.
Riki posted an answer truthfully because he has mentioned that he's been to Cuba SO many times.
Despite the fact that Cuba is a poor country and under a socialist rule does not take away its beauty because it's the people that count.
The pictures you see are real and the pictures do not always even do them justice. There is so much love and zest for life no matter what is happening. And not in every place will you see old, rundown, dilapitated homes. Just like in our affluent countries, you will find rundown places in 'poor areas' with 'rough' living.
And you will see well-taken care of places that are clean and beautiful.
Cubans are clean people and have dignity and self-respect.
Some friends may even invite you to their homes if time permits. Their homes are clean.
So don't worry about the negatives that people talk about.
The resorts are typical resorts as you'd find everywhere on holidays. I live in Canada and not everyone's homes are like the spas, resorts and high-end hotels either. That's why they're designed specifically for vacations.
Go to Cuba and have an amazing time. If you're going for a honeymoon or just a regular vacation, Cubans will make you feel at home and relaxed. Be their friends genuinely and you will have true friends for life. Those you befriend will actually never forget you and everything about you if you become good friends with them. I have many friends that I keep in touch with and vice versa. Those I hadn't seen for a few years never forgot me. That's the kind of people they are.
Honestly, you won't want to go anywhere else being in Cuba. |
