Andy P

Cuba, is it ok to go there now since hurricane Ike?

I am booked to go to Cuba, Holguin, guardalavaca to the playa pesquero on the 13th nov 2008, and was wondering if anyone had been or had any knowledge of the state of the infrastructure of the country, resort, or hotel. This is quite a sizeable concern for me as i am travelling with my 2yr old daughter.
Any help, guidance or reference points to look into would be greatly appreciated.
Additional Details
Could someone tell me why it is not a good idea to go?

Josh has given you a great answer. And it is a good idea to take extra snacks for your little one just in case of daughter's food choices...but actually there is food that she will like for sure.
If your daughter still uses diapers, be sure to bring enough for her. Certains diapers may be hard to find for your specifc needs...toiletries, etc. as these can be very expensive.
The extra baby food would be good to take for the Cuban friends with little ones. As well, bringing some little helpful gifts for the Cubans especially after the hurricanes. I'm not sure if your airline allows this, but most are permitting an extra case of luggage for 50 lbs free for humanitarian assistance. That's an additional point for you since you asked regarding the hurricane.
Riki also sent you a good link to read on travellers' reviews.

Playa Pesquero is fine and many have just come back from there in the last few days and have had nothing but excellent remarks about their stay.
You will never go wrong with the staff as well.

Don't worry, your trip should be just fine. There has been a lot of rebuilding and was started most right away. Causeways are repaired and things are picking up again and moving.

I could not give a reason not to go. The best part of your trip will be making Cuban friends. THAT is what will make your trip to Cuba an experience and one you will never forget. You'll most likely go back again.

Have a great time!

Victor
Well, Andy, since you are asking, I would not recommend it at the present moment

the big
My honest answer is, I must say no

All right, to answer your question, my humble opinion, which doesn't seem to please some people here, is that your money would help the comunist dictatorship that governs our country.

Nevertheless, it looks like that is something that is important only to us Cubans who suffer it.
For any other people that doesn't matter.

I gave you my honest opinion. Now the choice is yours

Der Schreckliche
Well, since you ask, I can tell you that it is not a good idea for two reasons:
1 - Visiting Cuba is an endorsement to the comunist regime that rules there
2 - Your money helps the evil brothers to stay there , oppressing, torturing, and killing Cubans

But that is just us, the Cubans. Nobody else cares

Please put your mind to rest the infrastructure is back in one piece!
Besides the chosen accommodation is beautiful and the staff is very gentle! if you allow me a piece of advice, please take as much as baby food as possible, this is a problem specially outside the hotel grounds.
Enjoy! it is definitely a good idea!

Riki
a good source of up to date info on that is the Guardalavaca forum on tripadvisor. Check below. I'm sure most everything is back to normal, relax and get ready you are in for a wonderful vacation.
