D0 you think there is a Dengue Outbreak in Trinidad and Tobago? |
The Government says no, but when it starts to hit close to home and it affects people you know you really begin to wonder! Why the cover-up? Additional Details I think the figures are high - we the public can ony go on what we hear, but only ONE private medical institution had over 30 cases in one month! |

Yes, it's everywhere. It's been SO prevalent in the past. Many people I personally know almost died. They were dehydrated and couldn't keep anything in. If it had happened 5 years ago, it would have likely killed them. Dengue is still around, due to the poor treatment of water. The maggots form and no mater how well people take care of personal hygene. Here's the latest release from the Ministry of Health on the matter: http://woodshedenvironment.wordpress.com/2008/08/21/dengue-breaks-out-in-east-tnt-with-possible-death/ |

There could be, l wouldn't be surprised if there was because l remember having to tell my neighbor about their collection of used tyres in their backyard that were just collecting water and l'm sure breeding mosquitoes. Long time l remember they used to pass with the mike alerting people that they'll be spraying the area in the evening, also the health people used to come by and throw their stuff in areas that may be a breeding spot. For the past two years l've seen none of those things taking place. |

"there is no dengue outbreak in T&T, what we are having is an increase of dengue cases" -- The Hon. Min. of Health Jerry Narace
What cover up you talking about ? This is done to protect the nation from panic and encourage people to continue to visit sweet T&T.
Just for a moment think what that kind of news will do to Trinidad if people thought that it had an outbreak just before carnival
We can't let the death of a few spoil our good name
It just goes to show the contempt they have for the people |

What Dengue Outbreak????? Noooo, as our Minister of Health keeps saying, there is simply an INCREASE in the number of reported cases in the Country.
Actually, the Ministry of Health published an article in the Newspaper recently, it shows that 2008 is a year for expected high cases of Dengue...we have a 6 year cycle. so i guess that narace is going on the fact that normally, during our peak years for Dengue cases, we would have about 600 confirmed cases for that year. i think we have reached about 100+ so to him its not an outbreak.
he probably waiting for the number of confirmed cases to top 700 before he would call it an outbreak.
Funny enough, if he simply states to the population that this year there will be expected high numbers of both reported and confirmed dengue cases as we are in our peak period of the cycle etc etc etc, then he wont have everyone down his throat. As people will then realise that yes, he knows that there are a lot of cases reported, but that is expected. in 1990 there were 600+ confirmed cases, 1996 - 500+, etc. 2002 and this year 2008.
