Well in the DR beer is a lot safer to drink than most things. The key is to pace yourself and make sure you drink a lot of the bottled water they have for about 25 cents a bottle. It is not that fun to be drunk when it is broiling hot and a hangover in 80 degrees is not good at all.

The booze in the resort is crap. The only beer is from a tap which they never clean and they ice up the rum and cokes too much. Get out of the resort and don't listen to them when they say it's dangerous out there. They just don't want you to find out you can get a decent hotel for under $50 a night and that you can be drinking all day long and not spend more than $30 bucks. The small restaurants can be really good esp if they are foreign owned. I hear in the all inclusives they end up spending less than $5 a day for the tourist food and eating off of a three hour old buffet is a good way to get some nasty food poisoning.

You can buy a liter bottle of rum for under $10 and then the soda ends up being more than the rum after you mix it.

There are many Adult Only places in the DR. Have fun and stay clear of the "sankies." You need to be careful of those guys. I knew a woman who got took for over $10,000 from one of them. Also don't get your hair corn-rowed since it will mark you as someone who has too much money and then everything will be the highest cost possible. Then again with the bracelets they give you at the resorts, you will be tagged already. Most Dominicans will know what resort you are staying at and how much you pay a night by the color of your wrist-band.

I think one or two nights of partying or drinking is ok, but not every night, otherwise you lose the enjoyment of your surroundings in a constant alcoholic haze. Not to mention your judgment would seriously lapse and you may end up having sex with someone or several someones you don't know and coming home with an STD.

And heck, if you want to drink every day, you can do that at home...you don't have to spend thousands of dollars and fly thousands of miles to knock back a few mixed drinks with college-age people.

Sure, go ahead and party...but do it sensibly.

Every vacation we go on (cuba and DR) we start drinking at 10am and stop whenever we go to bed.
You usually dont get that drunk during the day since there is line ups for drinks, you get a very small drink, and you are so hot you sweat it all out!

Drink lots at night :)

i go to dominican republic every year for 2 and a half month, almost every single day i drink from 30 to 60 jumbo size beer bottle of presidente you could never get enough, sometimes me and the pplz i went to the club or had a party in my house was from 5 in da afternoon till 6 in da morning drinking and dancing

My friends n i drank everyday, we had some drinks in the morning, some around noon and of course at night. We didnt get drunk everyday just sometimes, watch how much you drink... be safe n have fun. Take care of each other, always have a buddy with you when going somewhere like the bathroom or anywhere really...for safety.
