I'm not that much of a AMATEUR TRAVELER... The very FIRST thing you learn when you are traveling the world is... AVOID POLITICS... because you can open your mouth at the wrong time AND YOU WILL JUST DISAPPEAR.

I remember living in Haiti when Baby Doc was still running the place and I had to be VERY careful when I talked about politics.. we NEVER talked politics when any of the servants were around.. because that just wasn't smart.

The problem with AmeriKans is.. they think that stupid "Constitution" will protect them in a foreign country because they aren't smart enough to realize IT MEANS NOTHING outside of Amerika.

Some people here, as you can see, adamantly refuse to see the ugly reality of Cuba. This may be the travel section, but regarding Cuba, travel, as practically EVERYTHING else is political, because by going there you provide the government with money to support their dictatorship.
Besides, going there is an endorsement of the government

Some people here that mention this being the travel section, boast of pierre trudeau being a very close friend of fidel castro. I don't know about you, but that looks like a very political statement to me

It is my understanding that when south Africa had the apartheid, there was a boycott regarding that country. Nobody here dares to do the same

Yes, I knew all this, but do you want to know something? If given the chance, I would be there in a heartbeat...soaking up a wealth of cultural heritage and spending my time learning different aspects of a whole new country. I would love the opportunity to learn Spanish spoken by native speakers rather than being stuck here listening to Americanized "Spanglish".

In my opinion, America is just as wrought with political shiftiness as any other country, and maybe even moreso, and to shut yourself off from any new learning experience shows a fear and closed mindedness that we, as Americans, are supposedly raised to avoid.

These days, places such as the Bronx and L.A. are no less dangerous than Cuba or Mexico, yet we continue to boast that we are the most generous and understanding country...**eyeroll**

Before believing every negative bit of propaganda that rolls your way, you should also look at either unbiased, or positive, information too. Even the media is biased, as we all should realize.

You know, some people that claim to be not Cubans should dedicate their very valuable time and efforts to deal with the problems of their own country. We DO NOT meddle in other country's business

Regarding the situation of elian, it may look like an absurd boast, but we are the ones who had a clear knowledge of the situation. And I am not bragging or saying that we are superior or something like that

It is a matter of information and knowing the facts. Excuse me for mentioning myself, but I would never dream of criticizing something related to another country, other than mine, like for example: canada, because in the first term it is not my business, and second because I am not aware of the facts and I don't like to talk about something that I don't really know.

Since most tourists to any country aren't interested in their politics here are a few sites which tourists may like to check for information. If politics were in my mind I would never visit the U.S.A. Suffice to say George Bush killed more innocent people in his eight years as president than Castro has killed in almost 50 years. Since this is a travel page you might consider posting your site on a political page. .
