Always travel on your passport =)

Currently, Passports are only required for International Air Travel.

Passports will be required for Air and Sea Travel beginning January 1st, 2008.

If you do not have a passport, and need to fly home from one of the ports (do do illness, family emergency, etc.) you will not be able to.

yes, if the cruise leaves the country

If you are a US citizen and leave from a US port and return to a US port you do not need a passport. Just 2 forms of ID. Photo ID and birth certificate. Next year you will need a passport.

Whether you need the passport to get home is only half of the question. Some countries require a passport to admit you. This depends on where you come from and also where you are going. Any time you plan to leave your home country, the sensible thing is to get a passport. Besides, travel once and you will probably be hooked and want to go again. Get the passport, and then you're covered.

On a cruise, they usually collect your passport at sailing time and use it to compile a master list. Then they return it so you can carry it with you. The cruise company submits the master list and gets everyone pre-cleared for customs and immigration in all countries where you are stopping. Worth remembering as almost every island in the Caribbean is a separate country!

UPDATE: sorry idiot me didn't relies I'd left the general travel and entered the Bahamas section. if your an American leaving for the Bahamas then what i wrote down there is what you were looking for. if you living in the Bahamas and heading out then i have no clue.

As of Jan. 07 yes you do. that is if you want to re enter America. in less your cruise is not leaving American waters. otherwise n. but if your cruise sails into non American waters or international waters then yes you will need a passport at least i am like 80% sure that you will need one. just in case you need to go get a pass port now it will take about 3 months to get your pass port Ive or take 2 weeks because of the huge number of people now trying to get one.
