If you are a US citizen and you plan to fly, you will need a passport to go to Jamaica and Dominican Republic. If you fly to the US Virgin Islands, no passport needed. Just Photo ID and birth certificate. US Virgin Islands are US territories.
If you go by ship and leave from a US port and return to a US port no passport is needed for any of these islands. You do need your photo ID and birth certificate to prove your identity.

Good Luck

It's certainly possible. Are you a us citizen? If you are than not to US Virgin Islands but to the other destinations you mentioned a passport is required.

If you are a citizen of another country than your answer is yes.

if you are traveling outside of US land, then yes, you need a passport. US virgin islands, i would also suggest to carry a passport, just because of the fact that it is also a big tourist site.

aint_ez_lovin
im not exactly positive but i would check it out on the passports info web ste, but just to be safe i would have one, but then again there is the chance that someone could steal it, so if it is not needed then i sure as heck wouldnt have one

If you are a U.S. Citizen and are travelling directly from the U.S. mainland to the U.S. Virgin Islands, YOU DO NOT ... I repeat, DO NOT need a passport. You do need valid, government-issued photo identification, to verify that you are the real ticket-holder. Believe me, I am a born-and-raised St. Thomian and the big deal here over the past year has been how to let the "mainland" know that the current passport requirements DO NOT APPLY to the UNITED STATES VIRGIN ISLANDS, being St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix and Water Island. Puerto Rico is the only other destination in the Caribbean that is owned by the United States and does not require a passport from U.S. Citizens for travel to and from directly.

yankee_sailor
Stella is the only one with the complete correct answer.......to wit...if traveling by cruise ship, no passport (yet) required.

if flying, yes to Jamaica and DR.

an American will never need a passport to travel to the UNITED STATES Virgin Islands, because they are the UNITED STATES Virgin Islands

Kalico
You do not need a passport for the US Virgin Islands. Those islands are US territories.

You do need a passport for Jamaica and the Dominican Republic if you are flying. If you are traveling by cruise ship departing from the US and returning the same way, the US government does not require you have a passport until Jan 2008. However, the cruise line may require a passport anyway.

Jababygirl
Yes you do, once you are going out of the states you need a passport.

Hi, Yes you need a passport, not only to those countries, but also
to be able to re-enter in your own country (USA)new USA law!
Go to the embassy of the country you want to visit and travel, and
they will give you all the right info you need.
