I just got back from DR last Wednesday! Went to Boca Chica.
No you don't need a passport if you are a US citizen. When you get to DR, look for the tourist card booth and give the lady 10 bucks. (It's located next to the currency exchange booth if flying into Santo Domingo).

Then, make sure you filled out the blue customs card (have your birth certificate and flight numbers handy) for customs.

If you drink alcohol you may bring down two bottles. Certain brands are not available in DR and vice versa so bring your favorite to make sure you'll have it.

When you return again, complete the blue card again. Make sure you print CLEARLY. Those customs guys in MIAMI can be a**holes.
Say hi to the police dogs :)

Have fun!

Well actually, you might need it if you are traveling out of America. So i would say get one b-for you get in trouble. But have fun when you go to The Dominican Republic!!!!

Dave
I'm not sure where you are traveling from but if you are a US citizen all you need is a birth certificate and a drivers license. This will change in January of 2008.

The passport requirements for travel to the Caribbean are changing. Make sure you read all the requirements before you go...
The State Dept. website will keep you updated. I would recommend getting a passport. It's much easier to use and you have more security as far as getting a replacement if it gets lost or stolen vs. using your birth certificate.

Try this website. It should answer all your questions. Not right now but in 2007 you will need one to go anywhere in the carribeans!

Not at the present time if you are a U.S. citizen, just your birth certificate.
