Puerto Rico is part of the US. You do not need a passport, but (as in any flight) you do need a picture ID.

Some people, particularly if they look Hispanic, choose to carry their passports because of INS inspections who search for illegal inmigrants (mostly Dominicans) trying to get from PR to the Mainland. However, you are not required to use a passport, any positive picture ID will do.

Flying to Puerto Rico is like flying to Florida.

However, if you visit other countries in the Caribbean, such as the British Virgin Islands, St. Martin, Curacao, etc, new rules require that passports be used. This does not apply to Puerto Rico

No passport needed to fly to/from Puerto Rico. You also don't need one going to other islands in the Caribbean until 1/1/07. Then a passport will be required from all Caribbean islands except Puerto Rico.

lil_cruzan_23
Yes you do because I live in the virgin islands(St. Croix).

I hope this will help, I recently renewed my passport, and received the new one, there has been some misunderstandings about this issue, I myself thought that if I travel from Puerto Rico to Florida or anywhere else in the USA, I have to carry with the passport, but is not like that, check out on this, paste it from

New Requirements for Travelers

"The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.

This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports. This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement."

To Puerto Rico no passport is needed. Puertoricans are US Citizens and the island is a territory of the US.

I went to Jamaica in Nov. of 2001 with only a copied birth cert. with raised seal and photo I.D. i.e. driver's license. Here is a website you can search and get alot of information about passports, visas, what is needed for travel to different areas. Hope this helps...http://travel.state.gov/
