I went on a cruise to the Bahamas last month. I didn't need a passport just birth certificate and photo ID. The law doesn't change for sea travel until the 2008. If you are cruising then you will need one. Papers will be checked before you board and by Immigrations when you return. |

If you had to fly home for an emergency you would need one, so it would be best to go ahead and get one if you have time. |

I believe passports are only required for air travel right now (started January 2007)
January 2008, land and sea travel will require passports if you leave the country. |

NO !! NO !! NO!!! You do not need a passport if your cruise ship departs from a US port, AND your cruise ends before the end of this year (December 31, 2007). But a passport will be required of all US citizens to reenter the USA starting January 1, 2008. Once you get the passport you will be set for 10 years. The web site below will answer all of your questions about passports. In addition, If you take a cruise this calendar year and for some reason (like you get sick) and have to fly back to the US then you will need a passport. |

i just went there in december - big signs all over said passport required after jan 1, 2007 - so in short, yes.
however, u mention u r going on a cruise. if u r not going to do a shore call, then of course u do not. however, half the fun is getting off the ship so suggest u take it with u.
have fun. take lots of money with u - bahamas is expensive! |

Homeland Security has issued a notice that everyone that is traveling to the Bahamas, Mexico and Canada, as well as foreign countries needs a passport. I hope you aren't going soon. The average wait from CNN news is 13-14 weeks! |
