Do anyone know if the beaches in St. Thomas and Tortola will be very busy in early September?

It's still hurricane season and tourism is still pretty slow around here.

The #1 factor that determines how crowded the beaches are on any given day is the number of cruise ships calling. On days with 2 or 3 cruise ships, popular beaches like Magens Bay and Coki Point are packed.

Hotel beaches get significantly less traffic because they're pretty hard to get to if you're not staying at the hotel (not in terms of access because the beaches of the VI are open to all, more in terms of distance walking, parking available, etc.). The occupancy of the hotel determines how crowded the beach will be.

You shouldn't be too worried though. Most of the beaches here span an entire mile so there's plenty of space. I've rarely ever seen a beach here packed to capacity.

No, it should still be their slow season, but September has now come & gone. It's the 16th of OCT., but it shouldnt get busy for another 2 to 4 weeks -- whenever snow sets in for the winter in North America then they get busy -- usually November thru late March or April.

If this helps, vote mine best answer. THANK YOU!
P.S. -- I would find a few hotels on-line and e-mail or phone them, they can answer best!

September is off season. Many places in the British Virgin Islands (Tortola) are closed. Things are very quiet. The only busy beach in the BVI will be White Bay Jost Van Dyke on the weekends when people who live in the USVI come to play.

Hi there.. hope you are well...
Both Tortola and St Thomas are cruise ship destinations. Most of the major cruise lines include both in their intineraries. As such you will probably be sharing the beaches with cruise ship passengers. Not a bad thing as they normally have to be back on board for around 5pm to set sail for their next destination. St Thomas is also a tax free haven. It does get extremely busy high season yet if you stay away from the main resort beaches then you should be able to find a quiet cove. Tortola is just a stunning destination. I much prefer the BVI's. You may want to check out Virgin Gorda too easily accessible by boat from Tortola. It is one of my favourite places... simply stunning. Hope you have a great time!
