You don't need a passport to visit Jamaica if you are a US citizen. You can enter with an id, return ticket and proof of financial support.

In August you will need to have proof that you have applied for your passport, so that you can return to your country. This will hold until September 30 by when you should have received it. It is really with the US immigration that you will have the problem and not with the Jamaicans. The arrangement exists because the US cannot produce the passports fast enough. They figure all will be well though by October 1.

For non-US citizens, it will dependent totally upon your individual home country.

The official answer is yes, but on June 8th the US Dept of State announced a temporary change to the new US passport requirements. There is a serious back log of passport applications and as long as you have applied for a passport and can show proof you can travel to Jamaica... you will also need an original birth certificate or a notarized copy along with your regular photo ID.

Check out this link for more info... http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html

Have a great trip!

What you really absoutely must have if you have no passport is the proof of application for one and then need birth certificate. Passports are good for 10 years and they do not remind you when they expire. So check yours out and renew or get a new one. Kinkos is great for cheap passport photos and also the post office.

U.S. citizens traveling to the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda who have applied for but not yet received passports can nevertheless temporarily enter and depart from the United States by air with a government issued photo identification and Department of State official proof of application for a passport through September 30, 2007.

If you live in the US, yes... they won't let you back into the United States without a passport.

well i know that if you are an american they are changing the laws so that you cant use your birth certificate You have to get an american passport but no visa

I heard that just like Canada right now, that if you fly in from the United States, you just need to present proof that you have indeed, applied for a passport. However, I am not sure when this will be lifted and the requirement for passports for these regions will go into affect. I would just hurry up and get the passport...

Canadian & US citizens entering Jamaica need a valid passport or an original, certified copy of US birth certificate plus a picture ID such as a drivers license and so on. For more info on your trip go to ptyme.tripod.com/jam4.html
Have a great adventure!!! =)
