Your DL or State ID is enough. The US Virgin Islands are a US territory, so counts as a domestic flight, like any state.
This is from the DHS web site: (this apply to permanent residents too)
Traveling to and from U.S. Territories. U.S. Citizens traveling to and returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the U.S. territory and do not need to present a passport.
U.S. territories include American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Swains Island and U.S. Virgin Islands.

You must travel with your permanent resident card. You are required to travel with that document regardless of where you go. You don't need a passport to travel within the United States and its territories.

Any US territory the ID is good enough.
You're good. You're even good in Porto Rico.

When you travel to any American destination you always need your passport. Call information of your airport in order to know what countries allow you to only have a pic i.d . But, it's a fact that U.S doesn't let you in without a passport

Passport is ALWAYS good to have when not in the 50 states. You should be okay, but bring it just in case!!!!!!!!!

After June 1st you must have a passport to reenter the US, even from the Virgin Islands. Take it just in case.

I have no idea. But I would get a passport JUST IN CASE. Imagine if you did need one and you didn't have one. You'd be stuck on those Virgin Islands for a VERY long time. So, unless you get a for sure answer, definitely get one just in case. Couldn't hurt anyway.
