Do you find it okay to control or treat a mate badly?

This question is for the Singles and Dating section, and may sound silly but I am doing a survey here. Let me here your opinions.
Additional Details
I asked the question because of a trend I see with couples. I have actually heard people talk about it as if it were okay.

I think I understand what you mean. I see the trend too, and I hear the way people talk about their mates, and their plans. I remember where I was working two years ago, there was a group of people who had these bizarre plans for what they would do with their mates, and their views on marriage. They are a group of friends. You should have been there. I heard the way they spoke to their mates.

It just made me realize that the world is more messed up than I thought, and it just keeps getting worse. Just when I think it cannot get any worse, it does. Who are these people? What kind of human beings are they?

Sometimes it's the ones with the most wonderful boyfriends/girlfriends or husbands/wives that treat their mates like crap. Just as it is in some movies, that's the way it is in real life. I ask myself why.

I think it is despicable the way people take men and women away from their homes to ruin their lives or try to change them and I think it is also unwise. There is a thing called karma. What goes around comes around. Someone above me said 'treat others the way you would like to be treated.' I would like to add to that 'treat others they way you would like your relatives to be treated.' You would not like to see your sister or mother being treated badly, so do not mistreat any other woman.

This reminds me of an episode of an old local tv series. There are tv shows that promote this kind of crap. This old man is training his son to abuse his woman, but admonishes his daughter's boyfriend to treat her right.

If you know you don't love someone, don't waste his/her time and yours.

Quoted directly from a couple that I never understood..

NO sir. There is no reason/excuse for that and we all deserve to be treated with love and respect.

That it is horrible! No one should be treated badly.
However you still continue to see and hear about people
who are still settling for this kind of treatment.

The mistake that people make when going into relationships is to think that they can change the person despite knowing their faults. What they fail to realize is what you see is what you get.

I've seen men treat their girlfriend/wife like trash, and I've also seen good and honest hearted men get treated like a doormat by their girlfriend/wife.

Couples find it hard to give to their mate the easiest and smallest things in life that don't cost a thing.

It's never acceptable to treat your mate badly. I am a strong believer in if things can't work out go your separate ways before you destroy each other, mentally, emotionally and physically.

NO. Heck NO..... If you love that person why would you want to treat them badly. I agree that you should treat others like you would want to be treated.

reality
I see it too, and I have become a cynic.
