If you are a US Citizen you DO NOT need a passport to travel between PR and the US.
Same goes for the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. These are all US Territories thus the US is in charge of customs, immigration, trade, etc. Traveling to US territories is like traveling between US states.
A valid US issued driver's license is enough.
However - and I say this all the time - when traveling from the US mainland to PR or any other overseas US jurisdiction (including the states of Hawaii and Alaska), it is not a bad idea to carry a second valid ID, which you may keep in a safe place, in case your driver's license is lost or stolen, that way you can have a valid ID to board the plane back home. In fact, this is a good idea for any long distance travel within the US, that way you will not have to drive or ride a bus from say, NY to California because you lost your wallet. |
