I have heard of it. I know that it is in the southern and western part of the Caribbean. It is popular with tourists. It is often a port of call on cruise ships. It is associated with the islands of Aruba and Bonaire, as in "Aruba, CuraÃ§ao and Bonaire". The blue liqueur named CuraÃ§ao must come from this island. I take it that the ocean must be very blue around the island. Going by the name, I would say it probably was a Portuguese colony at one time before it was settled by the Dutch. I am only guessing, however.

Are you keeping track of what country the respondents are from? I am from Canada, if it is helpful to you.

well I've heard of the liqueur but I'm afraid not much else ... I've never been to the Caribbean but have met many people whose families originate from there but I've never met anyone from your island ... also I follow cricket, well, sort of follow cricket, partner and son-in-law are avid cricket fans, but I've never heard of a player from your island and presumably you're not a test match venue

sorry to disappoint you ... I would have loved to say I knew as much about your home as you probably know about mine (I live in London England)

yes i've heard of curacao. i've never been there but would like to go someday. i know that they speak dutch there and are apart of the netherland antilles. i knew this before you mentioned it by the way. i'm sure it's a beautiful country.

i heard of it, but i'm west indian so i probably dont count. i know you guys are famous for oil or petroleum i think.

Curacao, a possession of the Netherlands, is about 20 miles north of Venezuela. On a clear day, you can see Venezuela. There is a large oil refinery in the bay/cove that the cruise ships stop at. Also there is an amazing view from the bridge that goes over the bay/cove. It's kind of arid and has cactus. It has some great beaches, you just have to find them. There is a windmill farm close to the airport. Has the cave that begins with an "H" that has ancient writing on the walls. Getting back to the port area, the bridge swings rather then lifts and the buildings along the waterway are different colors. Costs too much to rent a car which you almost have to do to enjoy the island. Would love going back but can't afford the hotel and rental car expenses.

We visited Curacao only very briefly on a cruise stop. But we were charmed by the areas of downtown Willemstead we visited and enjoyed it very much. We hope to return someday.

Curacao is an unique place. Beautiful beaches, exquisite food, and much more. Is more of what you can ask. Rich heritage, and friendly people. I know that most of the population speaks papiamento(u).The national currency is the Netherlands Antillean guilder .It is at 2 1/2 hours from Miami. Another thing I know that there is controversy in the origin of the name Curacao.
