Does a US citizen have to have a passport to fly to the Virgin Islands? I have went to the state department website, but I didn't see any information,

If you are an American citizen and only going to the U.S. Virgin islands, you do not need a passport. If you are going to the British Virgin islands you will need a passport.
See the 3rd paragraph ( in bold print) on the website below for the statement that says you do not need a passport to go to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

People in the U.S. Virgin Islands are U.S. citizens and they are Americans ~ but you may want to get a passport just to be safe because now its basically like get one or don't leave the states

Travel Agent checking in here, U.S. Citizens need no passport for the U.S. Virign Islands. Going anywhere else from there you will need one.
