If you are a USA citizen and flying from the USA to Nassau, you need a passport. If you are cruising no passport is needed. However, some cruise lines are requiring a passport anyway. Before traveling check with your cruise lines.

You can still use your birth certificate if you are entering by way of a cruise ship. If you are flying you do need to have your passport available. Enjoy your trip.
p.s. Royal Caribbean has already started suggesting that everyone get a passport to expedite their travels.

Yes, you absolutely need a passport if you're passing through Nassau Airport. They will check your passport prior to allowing you entry into the baggage claim area.
Cruises often don't require them, but different cruise operators have different rules - I would check your cruise website if that is your method of travel.
Have a great trip!

Not now, but beginning next year you will.

If not now, soon-but I highly recommend it. Just makes travel so much easier.
Good luck!
